I got hubby to agree to a fake tree this year! It should arrive next week but he's being very impatient and asks me everyday, "Where's our tree?" He likes to put it up by the first week in December.

It looks beautiful in the picture, I hope it looks as good in person. I have been a very bad girl. I ordered a new tree skirt (usually make my own) that's gorgeous and much too expensive. Cranberry in color made of silk organza with tiny red seed pearls. So you see it was imperative that we have a fake tree this year so as not to drop sap all over it.

Here's a pic of our tree...

Lots of Christmas goodies at the Christmas Depot!

Your tree looks like mine. Mine doesn't have a fancy stand like that one. It will be a shame to cover that fancy base with a tree skirt.

I have a lovely crocheted ecru lace skirt. My tree actually looks nicer without the gifts under it. I love that tree skirt.

Cat fight alert!

[snip]
This is only the latest anti-Madonna rant to come out of the Elton John camp. Furnish, his life-mate, went into an all-out tizzy recently when he heard the rumor - which turned out to be untrue - that Madonna was planning to make a movie about her life.

"I can't imagine anything more boring than a film about her because there's no secrets," Furnish said. "She's bared her soul to the press."

He branded the Material Mom as "kind of cold" and criticized her as over-exposed. "We've witnessed every incarnation. There's no mystery, there's no mystique."

At the time, Madonna's rep, Liz Rosenberg, mused to PAGE SIX: "And the highlights of Mr. Furnish's prolific career would be . . . ? Who's he to judge anyone's soul anyway? The Dalai Lama?" Page Six for the whole sorted story.

I didn't order the stand, it comes separately, figuring the skirt would cover it. No sense in spending $32.00 to have to covered up. I'll just hunt around for one a Target or some place. Any suggestions for a store where I can find one?

Your skirt sounds beautiful.

Thanks for the prayers JL, still waiting to hear something for today.

Seems everybody's looking for a bargain this season and tourism is down across the pond:

FORGET boughs of holly. Stores need to deck the halls with consumers. Bergdorf starts its Christmas sale Dec. 3!!! Neither they nor Saks - which hasn't had anyone in it since Winona Ryder - will hire extra help for the so-called holiday rush.

Harrod's of London, the biggest, maybe most famous store alive, is empty. Besides the dwindling number of visitors and the country being expensive, many won't patronize Mohammed Al Fayed's joint because 9/11 makes his Egyptianness unwelcome. Tourism is so weak that 10 Downing Street is working to resuscitate it. Result? Britannia soon announces a unique gambit. Next year every single royal will be some place in some town at the same time, same day, for the same reason - tourism. The Queen will be in London; Duke of Edinburgh in Edinburgh; Prince of Wales in Wales; Andrew the Duke of York will be wherever York is (while his ex, Fergie, will probably be in New York); Edward's so far undivorced wife the Countess of Wessex will be wherever she's told, etc., etc. Prime Minister Tony Blair "blanched" when told how much tourism brings in and how badly it's down. Oh shoot, that's nothing. I wrote antidotes when I meant anecdotes on post 32. Bill clinton's mommy was right (there had to be one thing in her sorry life), don't speak when you're tired.

One just for you AG:

A Julianne Moore-ism: "I've been pregnant in real life and also pregnant in movies. Pregnant in movies is better. In real life you're fat all over. In films you still have nice arms and legs." Cindy Adams

You may be feeling like hell but at least you've got a working brain. :-)

Fayed can blame the mountaineers. When in London, we skipped Harrods for Selfridges, big spenders that we are.

Prayers on the way for your niece, BWB.

JL, do you remember me telling you about a friend's son being bullied by an older boy, and the police not doing anything about it? It must have been about a month and a half ago.

Anyway, it turns out that the boy's dad was being watched by the police, he was suspected of possessing/distributing child porn. About two weeks ago, his computer was seized and he was busted. He's now in a local mental hospital because he chose now to have a nervous breakdown (Funny how that happens)

What the police didn't expect to find was his wife was running an escort service. According to the local news, more arrests are pending. Just your average, all-American family, huh? The children were taken away and placed with relatives.

BWB, love the Christmas tree. I'm sure it's as gorgeous as it appears in the photo. We'll be off to one of the local Christmas tree farms next weekend to find the perfect frasier fir. I've sworn off all other varieties of trees, I'm the one that does all the decorating, being jabbed by needles is no fun.

Thanks for the prayers pubmom. Being stuck with the pine needles is one of the things that will not be missed.

WOW! On the arrest of the all American family, no wonder their boy was so abusive. Perhaps the goings on at that home were the reason the cops didn't (appear) do anything? I hope the children can get some help and turn their lives around. So sad.

Washington Post correction for their bad gossip:

• We jumped the gun on presidential twins Jenna and Barbara Bush's 21st-birthday blowout at the family ranch near Crawford, Tex. After somebody at the White House finally returned our calls, we can report that the party didn't happen Monday night, as some overeager Texans led us to believe, but instead it's set for Saturday. Meanwhile, President Bush's daughters were spotted in Austin yesterday lunching at Las Manitas restaurant with mom Laura Bush -- better known as "La Primera Dama" at the popular Mexican eatery -- and family friend Regan Gammon. The drink orders were lemonades and sodas, we hear, and a $10 tip was left on a $58.11 bill. Link

Gag me with a spoon. Bill Clinton, visiting Chels in Oxford, took some time yesterday to play football (a la Al Gore) with some American college students there. This photo probably won't link, but I'll try.

Go here for all the silly photos.

Did the mountaineers see any of this weirdness?

WINONA RYDER shoplifting memorabilia is becoming the Christmas gift of choice in America this year.

T-shirts bearing the slogan “Free Winona” are selling like hot cakes and other assorted tat including mugs, key rings and even Christmas cards are extremely popular with festive shoppers.

The craze has sprung up in the wake of the actress being found guilty of grand theft in a US court. She will be sentenced next month.

Winona, above, stole £3,500 of designer gear from Saks Fifth Avenue. But instead of ruining her career, it has turned her into a cult figure. The Sun

Time for a turkey sandwich break!

Oh good, a story on Mr. Gridiron (or is that Mr. Pigskin?):

IT LOOKS as though the Most Powerful Man in the World (retired) couldn't catch a cold. Former US President Bill Clinton led a team of students in a game of American football at Oxford University yesterday. But he fumbled the ball in dramatic style during the Thanksgiving Day match.

Clinton, who studied at Oxford in the 60s, wore a navy tracksuit top with the words Commander- In-Chief [he wishes] emblazoned on the back.

Despite his cock-up [OUCH!], Clinton, 56, seemed to relish directing play from the quarterback position. But he eventually conceded defeat, telling the students: "I can't keep up with you guys. I'm getting slow in my old age."

Daughter Chelsea was spared her father's embarrassment. The Oxford student was attending a lecture at the time. But her boyfriend Ian Klause was there to cheer on Bill. Insiders claim Ian and Chelsea will soon announce their engagement.

In the middle of all the action, Clinton still managed to find time to help one injured player, Claudia Veritas, receive hospital treatment for an eye injury. He got his security guards to call his personal surgeon and tell him to be on standby at nearby John Radcliffe hospital. source

Dang - seems our suspicions were spot on...except the part about the hooker mom. Way to go local cops - nice bust.

Prayers up that the kids can somehow overcome their loving parents' influence.

Thanks for the update on this sordid mess. JL
