Except for the part where republicans don't actually "control" the supreme court... and it's in the hands of the supreme court until further notice...
Abortion is not something within the power of the Republican party to do anything one way or the other.

Technically not so. All branches are co-equal. If the Supreme couurt makes a ruling that the current executive (president) disagrees with then he can chose to not enforce it. If that is an "issue" then the voters can cast him out in the next election if they think the Court was right and he was wrong and elect a President that agrees with the court. Liberal propaganda has elevated the Supreme Court to Godlike status on reading the tea leaves that is now our Constitution - so to do that today would be almost grounds for a Liberal coup. But the Supreme Court is not the last word on the Constitution or it's meaning. In fact- the refusal of the executive in charge to enforce Supreme Court rulings was supposed to be a check on it's power to our founders. But liberals have created the myth that our judiciary is the last word on all matters of law and it's meaning- and that was never meant to be the case at all!

Abortion is not something within the power of the Republican party to do anything one way or the other. Not so. The Appellate Jurisdiction of the Supreme Court is not absolute; it is subject to "such Exceptions, and under such Regulations, as the Congress shall make". [Art III Sect 2 para 2]
Leaving aside RvW, I for one would very much like to see Congress enact such an Exception, not least because it is 30 years overdue that our black-robed tyrants were given a massive kick in the teeth.
