Will Republicans try and overthrow Roe vs. Wade? Why not, pro life is the largest issue for Republicans. now that we control the House, Senate, White House, and Supreme Court, we basicly control the country. Of coarse this decission would not be pushed until the Iraq issue is delt with, since Bush probly wants all the support he can get from democrats. But for the first time in history Republicans have a chance to stop abortion, now I know your thinking moderate Republicans would never try to pass this. But the far right like me would give them the extra push. I'm not saying Republicans are going to try and do this and I 'm not even saying it would pass. The democrats can still philabuster(wonder if that how you spell it) all I'm saying is it can happen, there is hope.

At first I thought we were on the same page, but upon further scrutiny, it's quite clear we aren't. The problem is, you're skewing the Gallup poll results, in an effort to reach your preconceived conclusion, that most American's are pro-life. Most Americans are most definitely not pro-life. I support abortion only in the case of the health, or life of the mother. According to your logic, that could make me pro-choice, even though I oppose abortion 97% of the time.

There are numerous variables that are part of the abortion equation and the Gallup article states that with clear certainty. There is only one way to approach this question. Simply put, you're either pro-life or pro-choice. So far, I've never seen that questioned asked by any polling outfit, in which pro-lifers were in the majority. If pro-lifers had the numbers on their side, Roe vWade would have been overturned long ago.

The problem is, you're skewing the Gallup poll results, in an effort to reach your preconceived conclusion, that most American's are pro-life.

I am not skewing anything. Let's look at the numbers broken down one more notch:

Abortion Legal ALL circumstances: 26%
Abortion Legal MOST circumstances: 12%
Abortion Legal FEW circumstances: 43%
Abortion Legal NO circumstances: 17%

The key is to frame the arguement so you capture that 43% and the biggest place we lose those people is we much strongly insist that the life of the mother is the utmost concern. Liberals usually syphone off enough of the 'FEW circumstance' by correctly framing the issue around concern for the mothers life. Once conservatives understand this KEY POINT, they can win the abortion debate. For instance, in the upcoming partial-birth abortion debate, EVERY (and there are dozens) poll clearly shows a 60+% favor for banning this procedure. But the Liberals are very effective in framing the partial birth abortion procedure as one that is only done to protect the mother (which is BS) and they can get sympathy for their position. The key for conservatives to win is to be the champion of concern for the life of the mother.

If pro-lifers had the numbers on their side, Roe vWade would have been overturned long ago.

That was a court decision, but still most people do not support the position of 'overturning Roe v Wade' because most people precieve 'overturning Roe v Wade' to mean that all abortions would be banned.

I really don't think I am misrepresenting anything. I think it is VITAL to understand really what people mean when they say they are 'Pro-Choice'. Because you would be shocked to see that in some people that means they favor abortion in very few cases. There really is not just TWO positions in this debate as you seem to think, but many shades of grey. That makes the framing of the arguement key, but most pro-lifers don't do that (they usually argue for the most extreme position which keeps them in the minority).

Agreed. At the very best we may be able to ban partial birth abortions. That's come pretty close before.
