In case we run out of bon mots for JL while we're eating birthday cake, here's today's news:
VH1 has pulled the plug on the "Liza & David" show after weeks of frustration trying to deal with David Gest - a svengali who continually restricted access to his new bride, Liza Minnelli. "We discovered what a lot of people already knew: David Gest is impossible to work with," said a source close to the aborted reality show. "David Gest redefines the term 'control freak.' He was almost insane."
The heavily hyped cable show was originally supposed to debut Dec. 8, then was pushed back to January. Yesterday, VH1 lawyers wrote to Gest's lawyers informing them the deal was off because Gest had breached the contract repeatedly. "In light of your . . . inability to cure these breaches, it is with great regret and sorrow that we must notify you that we have no choice but to terminate the agreement," the letter states.
Rob Weiss, VH1's head of East Coast programming and development and one of the show's executive producers, told PAGE SIX: "We've made the decision not to move forward with the 'Liza & David' show on VH1. Although we continue to believe that Liza is an amazing talent, we were not given the cooperation that we were promised."
Weiss would say no more, but insiders said Gest:
* Kept Minnelli locked in their apartment. "She'd want to come out to shoot, and he wouldn't let her," said one source.
* Banned Liza from watching dailies.
* Made the crew take off their shoes and wear surgical booties inside the apartment. Gest was such a "neat freak," insiders said, he once ordered a female member of the VH1 crew to stick her head in the oven to examine some dirt.
Another time, Gest made a crew member stand with a portable vacuum cleaner while a hole was drilled in a plaster wall. link.
------------
Page Six also hears: THAT Andrew Cuomo is being touted to replace Eliot Spitzer as state attorney general when Spitzer becomes a candidate for governor in four years. Greenberg (Westchester) Town Supervisor Paul Finer, the political oracle, thinks Andrew's aggressive temperament is suited to prosecuting.
I don't think it's quite enough to be "aggressive." Some intelligence, competence and experience might be helpful, and I don't know that Andy knows anything about law enforcement (most liberal Dems seem to oppose it, in fact).

Happy Day, JL. I'm a Scorpio, too, as is my oldest son. I hope you have a wonderful day.

Hoping against Hope here that Tom Harkin's incredible performance last night will have a negative impact on his Senatorial campaign here in Iowa, where he is ahead.

Yuk, Liz Smith's lips are all over Hillary's prodigious posterior again:
THE OTHER day in Le Cirque's upstairs room where the food offered is much more splendiferous than the food in other upstairs rooms - the Glamorous Harpies lunch (Lisa Caputo, Peggy Siegal, Maurie Perl, Jennifer Maguire, Beth Kseniak, Jeannie Williams and Liz) presided over a sendoff for its marrying member, Lisa. She wed investment banker Rick Morris on Oct. 13. A gorgeous bunch of names, four tables strong, were invited, but to keep from inflaming jealousy, I won't tell who they were except for Sen. Hillary Clinton, longtime friend, onetime employer of Lisa in the White House. The tables were enhanced with false eyelashes, lipsticks, "diamond" rings, mirrors, false nails and other items suitable for prepubescent teenagers. We took these souvenirs home with glee. We ate with glee. We drank the wine and champagne with glee. We listened to fab toasts from Sen. Clinton et al., and from the girl of the moment, that Citigroup banker's gift to Women & Company.
I sat next to Sen. Clinton; she is a delightful conversationalist and guest. Maybe if I had more lunches like this one I wouldn't be so down in the mouth about America's future.

It's our pleasure! You're such a great guy lodwick. If it weren't for you we wouldn't have our button. You always brighten our day with all the goodies you bring by to share with us. And the selfless things you do that many people don't even know about.
We are certainly blessed to be able to call you friend!
Thank you for Mr. B's birthday wish, I will certainly relay it to him from you. :-)

That is one long list!
I'm surprized we didn't get non stop coverage that it was hilly's b-day on the 26th. That selfish wellstone had to go and die on her heinous' b-day. The nerve! And that pep rally for wellstone last night was beyond disgusting!! The gall of these cretins to go on and on about republicans needing to hold up campaigning and then that display last night. Weasels!
Something weird is going on with this thread and my computer. It will only load to post 10, the rest of the page is blank.

Remarkable new cure for insomnia discovered!Former vice president Al Gore's long and grueling comeback will reach new heights next month, when he and his co-author, Tipper Gore, hit the campaign trail for their book, "Joined at the Heart," an anecdote-laden examination of the American family -- including their own.
Yesterday various Gore associates told us the ex-veep's media juggernaut -- which may or may not reveal, at long last, the real Al Gore, unplugged from polls and political consultants -- will hit a dozen cities and extend into December. Among the highlights of the book tour -- one of the most elaborate in recent publishing industry memory -- are a full-dress Barbara Walters interview on Nov. 15 (with promotional pearls tossed out that day on "Good Morning America"), a scheduled appearance on David Letterman's "Late Show," a "Today" show interview the following week, guest shots on CNN's " Larry King Live" and "Inside Politics," and countless back-to-back print interviews. (We're still hoping for that lunch Gore promised us ages ago.)
"We're thrilled that the Gores have agreed to let us monopolize their schedule," said Elizabeth Shreve, publicity director for Henry Holt and Co. "The more people see of the Gores, the more books we'll sell." But selling books is only part of the story.
The other part is the riveting drama -- okay, maybe we're a tad overwrought -- of this once and possibly future presidential candidate reintroducing himself to the voters. "It's an opportunity to reconnect with a whole host of issues that they really care about," said Gore adviser Carter Eskew. "I think he's feeling very comfortable, for lack of a better word, because it's material he feels deeply about."
A network television producer, who asked for anonymity, added: "He's test-driving. I don't think he's ever going to just reinvent himself. But this is personal growth, and he's really just deciding what he's going to share. And I think the media and the public should keep an open mind."
Lloyd Groves, WashPost excerpt.
