In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

To find fault with; to scold; to overwhelm with wordy abuse; to censure severely or abusively; to rate.

The incensed priests...
continued to raise their voices,
vituperating each other in bad Latin.

--Sir Walter Scott, Ivanhoe

Kind of gives you an entirely different impression when somebody they says they've worn a pair of "felt pants", eh?

Are those well-worn felt pants, or were you just glad to see me?

Getting it a bit close under the belt, are we?

Certainly was a nip and tuck job last time he got cut below the belt ...

Doesn't that hard, pointy, sharp-tipped threatening sword look nasty posed like that? ....

Oh - yeah - THAT one in his scabbard as well.

I wouldn't say that he was making a statement, more like a decleration of intent!

Wood that depend on who/what/where/how's he's under when he proposes his statement of intent to up hold his intentions intensely uplifting spirits?

Or is that too hard a question to ask under circumchristmases of that intent?

I'm relieved for you that they caught two guys connected to the sniper. I hope things get back to normal soon.

Last night I heard on the news that they were looking for an ex-military type who owns a .223 and has an Alabama connection so I turned on all of the Halloween lights and the floods so the ATF men wouldn't stumble in my driveway.

No visitors, though.

I was right about one thing. A while Back I positedthat if indeed the guy was ex-military, he had to be Army, because no self respecting Marine would get that close.
