I got booted there within 5 minutes. They don't like people that speak their minds, even though I was specifically reffered to in one thread of theirs by position.

I wish DU goes completely bonkers. It makes my job much easier.

I donated to DU and had contributed for well over a year and was banned without so much as a warning.

Please tell us, in all honesty, since you have posted at DU for over a year, did you really find intellectual stimulation from the discussions? Are there some really smart people over there? Did you learn anything? Could you please delve down in the innermost depths of your intellect and really, seriously think about these questions and respond?

I've visited there a couple of times and found it unreadable. Perhaps I didn't try hard enough but I just didn't get it. It all seemed so inane. Maybe it is the ideological differences?

In any event, you have my condolences. It is maddening to be unceremoniously chastized for doing absolutely nothing wrong. (It happened to me at AOL and I was furious. I think it was the attitude of the moderator, who was clueless and heavyhanded and just plain stupid. They have few enough participants as it is and I was spoken to and treated the same way one might speak to a child molester or pornographer. What was worse, I had only been trying to help a clueless poster! I have never gone back.)

In any event, you have my sympathies. Perhaps you'll feel differently in the morning.

I for one am always willing to have a civil discussion. I don't agree with everone here. (Witness some rather heated discussions with Parsifal over minimum wage. The point is that even though we disagreed on the subject, we agreed on other subjects and it never became personal.)

Don't feel bad about getting booted from DU. Many of us consider it as a badge of honor. I logged into DU openly in a hope that I could open a dialog to identify and accentuate our similarities, rather than the differences, but I only lasted 6 posts before getting banned.

I always figured they were a bit intolerant of differing viewpoints at DU, but when they start eating their own it's gotta tell you something.

And for all you DUh's lurking on this thread (not you KickedoffDU, you are now a full member of an exclusive and proud club)

Let me say welcome to Free Republic! I've looked around DU from time to time, and the lack of open discourse is stultifying!

I hope you enjoy it here, and that we have some spirited and interesting discussions. There's a lot of good stuff here ...every site has its nuts, but this forum does not pre-approve posts before they appear on the site. Posts that violate the no profanity/no personal attacks/no racism or violence rules do get pulled when someone mashes the Abuse button, but you don't have to wait 20 minutes for a post to appear.

Don't feel bad. I'm a democrat and they have booted me off there once or twice. They are not an "underground", but in fact are just your everyday "establishment" democrat website.
