Word For The Day, Thursday 10/10/02
The Verbivores | 10/10/02 (for most of you at least) | Mistress Bella and Miss Rika

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

atrabilious\at-ruh-BIL-yuhs\, adjective:

1. 1. Melancholic; gloomy.
2. Irritable; ill-natured; peevish.

Etymology: Atrabilious is from Latin atra bilis, black (atra) bile (bilis). It is a translation of Greek melankholia (see melancholy), from melan-, black + khole, bile. According to ancient physiological theory, there are four principal humors (fluids) in the body: phlegm, blood, choler ("yellow bile"), and black bile. As any one of these predominates it is supposed to determine the temper of the mind and body. Thus an individual with a preponderance of black bile in his system would be atrabilious (or melancholic) by nature.

Yes, It was over the Strom situation....

I didn't even know he had that in him. Though if he is able to carry it over, when he is J.C. Chairman is another matter.

If I were Rove, I would have Bush wait till about the Tuesday Prior to election day, and Recess Appoint EVERY SINGLE VACANCY, with the most Hardcore Strict Constructionists I could Find. The Dems would go into Apoplexy, and fritter away their last campaign weekend jabbering about a subject, only the hardcore, care about and comprehend, leaving his guys to play to the middle all by themselves.

It would work. These guys get very unbalanced when someone hits them back.

And MOST people could give a rats ass, about who gets put on the bench. In this day and age, you are lucky if you can get them to vote. And in 2000, where the dems got every hand possible, living or dead, on the lever, it still wasn't enough. Not in Arkansas, tennesee, South Dakota,Missouri.... all states where senate contests are close.

It would also have the secondary effect of turning out the base in Droves.

The only possible casualty would be the NJ race.

I (finally) got around to sending in my campaign contribution to Forrester. If I wasn't moving to Pennsy later this month I'd like to volunteer on the campaign.

IMHO, getting conservative justices on the benches is probably the most important issue at hand. But it's a little obtuse to the usual rhetoric the voters get in campaigns, so it's kind of a background issue.

Which was the central point of my comment.Doing so via recess(with an eye towards mass confirmation, once the Senate is won) would serve a magnificent campaign purpose, bc it would be all that the Dems could stutter about during the last week of the campaign, and It would fire up the base, leaving the Dems commisserating with their base, Republicans free to ignore their own base and play to the mushy middle.
