XS, what about pouring it through a coffee filter, if one is available at your office? That should certainly preclude even the smallest shard of glass from siphoning through.

i never would have thought of that, but we don't have a coffee maker in our office. everyone buys the local swill. very kind of you to brainstorm for me, though!
