We really don't know.

If such a thing happened, banks and cashiers would be among the first to be afflicted, like post offices and mailrooms were with the anthrax attacks. They deal with lots and lots of cash.

I agree-but there's a catch 22 there. They also deal with lots and lots of people. The question facing an epidemiologist would be did the bank personnel and all the cashiers get sick because of their extensive contact with the public, or did the public get sick because of their contact with the bank personnel and cashiers? Did the cash contaminate the victims, or did the victims contaminate the cash? I'm not sure it would be that easy to make those distinctions...
