In one Southern state over 10,000 blacks were murdered by whites during Reconstruction. There was nothing like this going on in the North. There was a staggering amount of anger against blacks in the South after the war, and a staggering level of murder of blacks (not the few hundred lynchings that people might expect from the KKK), perhaps the highest rate of murder ever in any period of American history.
As I said, attitudes toward blacks in the North were not good, but they were much better.

How many of these lynchings would you attribute to the Union League of ex slaves and their black militiamen?
They hung a banner at their prsidential campaign tht read "every man [negro] that didn't vote the Radical[Republican] ticket, this is the way went want to serve him:hang him by his neck".

As I said, attitudes toward blacks in the North were not good, but they were much better. Only because they hadn't had an invading army burn their homes, rape their women and eat their livestock. Certainly not because they were more virtuous.
Since the majority of the ex-slave population was naturally in the South, the North simply lacked the opportunity to do more harm.
