Whoever came up with the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" knew what they were talking about.
Bush hasn't offered "shifting" rationales for a preemptive strike against Saddam, he's offered multiple rationales. In other words, Maddy Halfwit, there are a lot of reasons to take him out, not just one.
By the way, washer woman, how many "rationales" - shifting or otherwise - were there for Clinton to bomb the Sudanese aspirin factory? The Belgrade maternity hospital? Just what I figured.
FORMER presidential contender Pat Buchanan got grilled about his partnership with hedonistic Greek aristocrat Taki Theodoracopulos at the launch of their new magazine, American Conservative, in Washington on Wednesday. Buchanan, who's big on family values and tough on immigration, was asked whether Taki, who was busted for bringing cocaine through British customs in 1984, isn't exactly the kind of immigrant he wants to keep out of the country.
"I don't think he came across the Rio Grande," Buchanan replied, according to the Washington Post.
"No," Taki laughed, "I came on my yacht."
As for family values, the ladies' man has never divorced his beautiful wife, Princess Alexandra Schoenburg. Taki admits the twice-monthly magazine - aimed at real right-wingers rather than Chardonnay-sipping "neo-conservatives" - probably won't make money. "I don't expect my children to live off the profits."
The U.S. Olympic Committee is investigating whether Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton improperly discussed New York City's bid to host the 2012 games with an Olympic official. The committee is looking into a meeting between Clinton and Anita DeFrantz on Sept. 6, when Clinton hosted DeFrantz for a special session of Congress at Federal Hall. DeFrantz, a representative of the Olympic selection committee, has publicly stated that she discussed New York's bid with Clinton. full story
Liz Smith has a potpourri of newsy items, from Liza & David MinelliGest to Laura and Barbara Bush:
MAYBE YOU think that was a vision you saw recently - the first lady entering the Arnold Scaasi salon on East 52 Street with a big bouquet of flowers in her arms. Laura Bush was with her brainy daughter, Barbara. The Yale student loved the two evening dressings Arnold had made up for Mama. And by the way, on Oct. 14, the Fashion Institute of Technology honors Scaasi's "Exuberant Fashion" in a celebration of this all-American couturier. This benefits Breast Cancer Research. Laura Bush is the honorary chair with Libby Pataki, Dr. Joyce F. Brown, Veronica Hearst, Parker Ladd, Aerin and Evelyn Lauder joining hands.
A few other things have changed. Clinton, Gore, et al., demand that Bush obtain UN permission to proceed. In 1998:
Albright has stated throughout the trip that the United States is informing allies of its intentions but is not canvassing for support or asking permission to enforce the disarmament conditions set by the U.N. Security Council at the close of the 1991 Persian Gulf War. WashPost
These people make me sick.
From La Stampa:
Rome, October 25th 2001 "Dad, stay at the hotel, I'm not a child anymore" Three American marines are following Chelsea Clinton. Afterwards, the crowd in Via Condotti will scream "Bill, Bill, Bill" and him, surrounded by thirty policemen goes shopping at Gucci's. Then he will buy a blue checked shirt at Il Portone, spending 120.000 Lire.
From Il Messagerro:
Rome, October 25th 2001 If there's a positive side about not being the president of USA anymore, Bill Clinton has found it yesterday. He found himself free to go shopping, accompanied by 25 bodyguards he visited Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Il Portone
From Corriere della sera:
Rome October 25th 2001 Relaxed and happy, hand in hand with his daughter Chelsea, Bill Clinton wandered around for the centre of Rome. He spent the afternoon going shopping in Via Condotti, visiting Gucci where he bought a pair of shoes. While his daughter was triyng some trousers he went to Il Portone in Via delle Carrozze where he bought 2 shirts. link
It's good to know that both of them got over their intense grief over the loss of 3,000 lives long enough to go off on a hand-holding, bodyguard-surrounded shopping trip to the exclusive clothing shops of Rome. Of course, my heart is warmed by the knowledge that I'm helping fund the 25 bodyguards and three Marines who protect these pieces of dung.
One more item I couldn't pass up:
Chelsea Clinton and Belvedere boyfriend Ian Klaus have set up light housekeeping in N.Y. ... They're Says a neighbor, "On the street Chelsea and Ian say hi to all the people they meet ... There were quite a few people out walking their dogs, mostly gay male couples because this neighborhood is like a sedated version of the Castro. ... It seemed no one knew them. One guy did recognize her after they said hi. This guy said to his boyfriend, 'Did you recognize that celebrity?' and his boyfriend answered, 'Who was it? Ralph Lauren's son?' Ian does look like David Lauren.
"Chelsea carries one of those chic Hogan's Script bags that retail for $900. Sandra Bullock and Susan Sarandon have them too. By day Chelsea tends to wear a gray pantsuit. All those mean statements about her needing to lose weight are true. In blue jeans, one night, her butt looked the size of Rhode Island. None of the new weight she has gained has gone to her bust. ...
"She missed out on Fashion Week. Totally didn't go. Odd, since she's spending so much money on clothing. But the photographers would jump all over her because of her weight.
"Ian and Chelsea really are friendly, lighthearted, very much in love and obviously new to NYC." I bet they're learning fast. SF Examiner
Congratulations to Stewart for an excellent first day at the Ryder Cup.

U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin has widened his lead over Republican opponent Greg Ganske over the past three months, according to a Des Moines Register poll that was taken this week as Iowans were learning details of an unfolding campaign controversy.
The Democratic incumbent has opened a 20-percentage-point lead over Ganske, a congressman from Des Moines, in the latest Iowa Poll of likely voters. His lead in late June was 9 points.
Among adults who say they definitely will vote in the Nov. 5 election, 54 percent say they would support Harkin if the election were held now, and 34 percent would back Ganske. The rest would either prefer another candidate or are undecided. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Sorry. I guess my only excuse is the cobwebs in my mind leftover from a good night's sleep.
Your are obviously a Guilder in higher standing than I am. Instead of having my mouth hanging wide open at such negative comments about our lovely First Family, I would have been gagging.
You, my dear, are loaded with poise.
