Why would he need an address if he was paying him off in cash and a vehicle? It's not like he was keeping books and records on his itinerent employees.

Please show the proof that he paid his employees in cash and that he kept no books? The only place I've ever heard that is from the Smart haters. The fact that he knew Richards address shows that he was keeping books.

No it doesn't. He could have had Ricci's address for a number of reasons -- none of which we know, of course. I said "IF" he was paying him in cash and a vehicle. That seemed to be the case early on, mostly from what Ed himself said regarding the vehicle trade-off for work.

No it doesn't. I don't know if Ed was keeping books on his workmen or not, but this is certainly not proof of it.

Partial transcript of Ed Smart's 7/10 press conference:

I...I paid him...uh, you know...with the car...we had a contract on the car...and he was supposed to work...you know to help pay that off...which he did...and I did pay him...you know...some cash...I can't remember if I paid him check or not...I've had no(?) over the course of building my home I've had...you know...temporary work that I've picked up for the day and...you know...I've paid them cash. Sometimes...sometimes there's a problem where they don't have IDs...they can't cash checks so...you know...that's basically... .

Re: Ed knowing Rick's address.

If someone ran out on me after I'd agreed to let him use a jeep which he was to pay for by working it off, and which he had paid exactly nothing on so far, I'D FIND OUT HIS FRIKKIN' ADDRESS!!!

When my housepainter didn't show for 2 days, after I'd paid him money, and after he'd sworn to come back right away and start the job, you can be I found out his address in a very short time. In fact, I went and looked and found out quite a lot about him--in case I was going to have to take some sort of legal measure to get my money back.

Not to mention that anyone who knows anything about contractors (which Ed was) knows that they are always having to go and pick up their workers, b/c the workers are generally a sorry bunch of layabouts who never seem to be able to show up on time, who always have an excuse, and who lay off drunk about every other day or so unless you go to their current flop-place and get them.
