Wouldn't it be interesting to hear the Smarts' 911 call? Strange that the police allowed media to play Samantha's friend's mother's call...

MK: Inaudible.

Ed: Wakes up with a start. “What’s the matter, honey?”

MK: “A man took Elizabeth!”

Ed: “What do you mean a man took Elizabeth? When?”

MK: “A long time ago!”

Lois: Lois rouses sleepily. “What‘s wrong?”

As he runs from the room, Ed shouts back. “MK says a man has taken Elizabeth!”

Wide awake now, Lois follows Ed as they run to check out the other bedrooms because Elizabeth sometimes goes to sleep with her 3-year old little brother or stays up late to study. They run down stairs searching room to room........... the guest room, the study..........

Mary Katherine came [downstairs] and said, “You're not going to find her. A man took her."

Ed runs back to MK and shouts at her. “How do you know a man took her? Did you see him? Do you mean a man come right into your bedroom and took her?”

MK: “I heard him wake her up and make her go with him. I tried to come and tell you but I saw them on the stairs. I was scared so I went back to bed and stayed real still like I was asleep.

Lois sees the cut window screen and screams. Ed runs to phone and dials 911.

Ed and Lois question MK. “How long did you pretend to be asleep? What did the man say? What did he look like?”

MK tries to answer them.

Ed: “Why didn’t you tell us sooner?”

MK: Sobbing, “I was afraid. I thought he had a gun.”

Ed: “Did you see a gun?”

MK: “It was dark and........ He had something........ and he made Elizabeth go with him. She asked him if he was abducting her and he said......... He told her to get her shoes.........”

Ed runs outside to look around. In panic, he runs across street to neighbors.

Lois: Almost hysterical. You should have told us right away!”

MK: I was scared....... I t-thought he had a gun........”

Lois: “But did you see a gun? “Why didn’t you come and tell us?”

MK: Sobbing now, “I d-don’t know.......... I was scared!

Lois: “Did he say anything else, like why he was taking her?”

MK: Sobs uncontrollably.

Bella...thanks for posting the sltribune article.....I don't care what anyone says, the SLTribune has done a fantastic job on this case, and I can see Kevin Kantera moving on up in his profession.....

This article really brings home a lot of facts that were just never said before....the fact that MK came to them and said those haunting words....the fact that indeed there was hard feelings between Ed and Ricci....Ed denied it but it was there....

My take on the feelings of MK are these:....I would pounce on my dtr to tell me everything right now if this ever happened to us....there would be no going easy on MK....there would be an interrogation right from the start.....perhaps, maybe MK feels a little distant now because so much emotion she had to keep to herself ...

children need to talk about tragedy...they need to vent..

..was MK allowed to vent..

.or were the Smarts told not to question her on anything in hopes of preserving her "memory"?.....BS...

..it was the worse thing to do in this case...

.better if mk was put thru the ringer that first week then to have 4 months go by without any resolution, and with mk obviously emotionally devastated that her only reaction now is coldness....

I hope the Smarts have been in contact with other parents who have missing childrem....Molly Bish's parents are still waiting for her "discovery" after nearly two years....she was about the age of Lizzie.....they could be a comfort....

"Ed went to Ricci's apartment because Ricci did not abide by the terms of the contract and wanted Ricci to fulfill his end of the bargain (ie, work for 30 hours)."

Here's what the article says about that....."Smart got inside the Jeep, and Ricci appeared, asking him what he was doing. An angry Smart told him he was taking the Jeep back, that he believed he had been taken advantage of after going "the extra mile" for him."

This says that Ed went to Ricci's apartment to repossess (i.e., "take back") the jeep.....nothing is said about him negotiating with Ricci to fulfill his part of the 30 hr./week bargain.

"Nowhere in the article does it mention Ed took possession of the Jeep and drove it back to his home."

Let's take another look at the article. It says, "Ricci began showing up for work again but was chronically late. After Smart was convinced Ricci would live up to their agreement, he again let him have the Jeep."

How could Ed have "again let him have the jeep" if it had not been repossessed? No other repossession incident is mentioned in the article.

"Ed went to Ricci's apartment with the intent of having Ricci come back and fulfill his obligations."

See response to quote # 1.

"Again, nowhere in the article does it mention Ed drove the Jeep back to his home."

See response to quote # 2.

I'm off to bed......

actually i would be willing to bet that you could get your pants sued off by defaming a dead person. if the dead person had family with big-bucks, and wanted to bury you.

the article goes both ways, either he's a desperate dope addict looking for quick cash, or he's criminal genius.
