sandude's credibility has been shot to pieces today.

I was stating an opinion to freedox. I've never had any credibility with you so put a sock in it.

Thanks so much Palladin.

I think that is what freedox was implying in her post. The public (those of us outside of Utah) have no way of knowing. Thanks.

"Good Lord! Now your down to discussing Elizabeth's breasts??!! What do you do, post 24/7 just to hear yourself talk?"

did you happen to notice that the "da" had 13 posts in a row a little earlier...I would say that "da" is a legend in his/her own mind......

"Maybe the FBI can now step it up."

I have some questions about this. What, exactly, is the working relationship between the SLCPD and the FBI in this case?Rumors popped up on these threads some time ago about the two agencies not working well together. More recently, there have been a couple of things reported that would seem to possibly support this.

The National Enquirer (yeah, I know....) printed an article a couple of weeks ago with a front page "CASE SOLVED" headline. In the article, the SLCPD's case against Ricci was outlined, and it was suggested that Ricci was the SLCPD's final "solution" to the crime. However, at the end of the article, there were a few paragraphs stating that FBI sources had expressed skepticism over SLCPD's emphasis on Ricci. The article indicated that the FBI would be continuing to pursue other avenues of investigation.

On Sept. 20, the Deseret News printed an article entitled, "Officials say Elizabeth Smart rumor is false." According to this article, there had been televised reports that Elizabeth Smart was living in Yuma County, AZ. A spokesman for the SLCPD is quoted as denying the reports. A spokesman for the FBI said only that the FBI had been "told" by the SLCPD that the story had been discounted based upon a photo. Now wait a minute....if this story was deemed substantial enough to have been reported on television, surely it would merit more than a simple photo examination! Wouldn't the FBI have been the most appropriate agency for investigating an out-of-state rumor of this magnitude? According to the Deseret News article, it appears that the FBI was not included at all in checking this story out. To add to the mystery, the alleged "television reports" of this sighting never seemed to come to fruition......did anyone see this story reported anywhere besides in the Deseret News?

On Sept. 7, there was a Deseret News article in which SLCPD admitted that its officers had failed to secure the crime scene for a full 3 hours after arriving on the scene. Although SLCPD reportedly "downplayed the impact" of their failure to secure the scene, there are no comments from the FBI on how this might affect their avenues of investigation.

Can anybody here provide a source that might shed some light on the interplay between local police and the FBI in a case such as this one? Is there indeed a point at which the FBI steps in and takes over, or is always a joint effort?

Varina, it's shame that you have to put up with these horrible imposters and the problem with these people who have been bashing and insulting you is that they're worried that you've been correct in your opinions on this. They do not and will not admit that either.

Thanks, pacer2. I really don't know why some of the posters are so bent on personal attacks. A couple have been that way since the beginning.

I appreciate your posts.

I sure did notice that. A lot of repetition, too, which makes for very boring reading. The so-called "da" must really think he's/she's important.

I'm not sure, but I thought the FBI was always called in for kidnapping cases -- particularly if the perpetrator was thought to have crossed state lines.

It's not a score card with the lowest scumbag being guilty.

That's a good statement. I agree.

Some people seem to think that Ed Smart and/or the whole Smart family is rotten to the core, that they are really evil Borgias, who are hiding their true degenerate selves from us, the public. If that were true, that would make them lower than Ricci, for all his dreadful past.

I have tried out many scenarios wherein a family member did something horrible to Elizabeth, then used this thing to cover up. It's a possibility. But if that happened, that would be only one or two family members at most.

I object to people continuing to imply that the entire Smart and Francom families are evil, b/c such an explanation of this is totally w/o basis in fact as far as we know. They can only imply this, not state it, b/c we know of no or few facts to back up such a notion. (Whereas we know of real acts of evil done by Ricci.) I guess we need to consider family members specifically and individually--since "the Smart family" is not some mysterious entity like the mafia.

Good question. Wonder what is going on. Is Scaredkat still around? I am hoping that time will tell us something, but it may not.

If only Elizabeth or her body could be found!

Good points about "lie detector" tests. I agree with you. They are nothing more than an investigative tool. They are a way to "psych" the interviewee and put him in a frame of mind most likely to inspire him to tell the truth.

It's the police and FBI who read these results. Any word of how someone's test came out would have to have originated with them. I thought many considered the police/FBI untrustworthy in this case? So why shd we believe them about lie detector results?

Good point about maybe the Smarts don't want to be encouraging people to be out near where hunters are shooting.

Now I'm confused again, though. I was starting to think that the sudden lack of searches meant something significant. The hunter thing is a plausible explanation.

Your post really points up some of the ways in which polygraphs are little more than hocus-pocus. Notice the tester used your supposed readings to get a discussion going on the "questionable" issues. That's how it really works.

A close family member of mine had a similar supposedly "positive" reading for a certain drug's use. This was while taking a required polygraph as part of applying for a police position. I am as positive as anyone can be about the actions of another, that this person never used the drug the polygraph supposedly read "positive" for. I believe that the "reading" in that case was used as an excuse to reject this otherwise-qualified family member (who never had ANY criminal record whatsoever and still doesn't), b/c the police department in question was fulfilling a quota.

Come on, Neenah. I don't know of anyone here who didn't like Spore-gasm. As Sandude says of himself, I, too, exchanged private e-mails w/ Spore-gasm, and quite enjoyed the dialogue. Perhaps s/he will be reincarnated. I hope so. (As they say, freerepublic is addictive, and one doesn't kick a habit just like that!)

The searches have not stopped. While the number of searchers has dwindled, some Smart family members still lead weekend searches for Elizabeth. Members of Forums for Justice.org are involved in these searches, and give of their time and resources every weekend in the hope that Elizabeth may yet be found.

thanks for the info. I'm glad to hear they are still searching.

so then MK could not have recognized the voice and could not identify who she heard and saw....then all this exp. that Ricci had with going into houses at night to steal with people sleeping is wasted and all his exp. with the inner workings of the house is wasted too

I know that logic isn't one of your strengths, but Ricci having an accomplice AND MK recognizing a voice and identifying who she heard are not mutually exclusive. Sherlock and others have long maintained as you should very well know that Ricci could have easily planned this escapade by providing the M.O., target, the floorplan, a key and a getaway vehicle. There were at least two other workmen that worked at the Smart home during the Ricci period whose voices MK could have recognized.

I'm afraid it's Freedox's "credibility" that you've "shot to pieces." It was Freedox who asked why the searches had stopped.

Is Bella a real person, Varina? Or just an imaginary friend of yours? I've never seen anything posted by Bella except the same repetitious articles, over and over--sometiems accompanied by one line of "comment." Except for one time that I remember, when it appeared that "Bella" had actually written something--and I vaguely recall that is was a rather strange bit of gobbledegook with lots of ellipses and run-on sentences.

It's also curious that Bella mis-spelled many of the same words as ScaredKat. I (and others) have long thought there were several aliases for the same poster on these threads. I asked John Robinson awhile back if JimRob had the tools to track these folks down and he said he did. I need to follow-up on that. There might be a few surprises.

Some posters are enjoyable to reply to. Others I ignore. Like any work enviroment, you learn who to avoid.

And you learn who's fun to be with.
