In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
eleemosynary \el-e-MOS-i-ner-ee; el-ee-uh-MOS-i-ner-ee\, adjective:
eleemosynary, noun
eleemosynaries, plural
1. Relating to charity, alms, or alms-giving; intended for the distribution of charity; as, ``an eleemosynary corporation.''
2. Given in charity or alms; having the nature of alms; as, ``eleemosynary assistance''
3. Supported by charity; as, ``eleemosynary poor.''
``It is noteworthy that the heyday of laissez-faire, the middle and late nineteenth century in Britain and the United States, saw an extraordinary proliferation of private eleemosynary organizations and institutions.'' --Milton Friedman, Capitalism and Freedom Etymology: The source of eleemosynary is Medieval Latin eleemosynarius, from Late Latin eleemosyna, alms, from Greek eleemosyne, from eleemon, pitiful, from eleos, pity.

There's a fine line between eleemosynary support for the poor and the tough love that many need to change their ways and improve their lot in life.
Similarly, the "status-quo" politicians are bending over backwards trying to not change Iraq's ways. But perhaps A war against Iraq might destabilise the Middle East, but that is precisely what the region needs
As I've posted elswhere, and less eloquently than the linked article, one of the best things to happen to any country (Germany, Japan, Afghanistan, etc.) has been that the US kick their @$$, followed up with our rebuilding talents.

Gore's speech was one no decent politician could have delivered. It was dishonest, cheap, low. It was hollow. It was bereft of policy, of solutions, of constructive ideas, very nearly of facts -- bereft of anything other than taunts and jibes and embarrassingly obvious lies. It was breathtakingly hypocritical, a naked political assault delivered in tones of moral condescension from a man pretending to be superior to mere politics. It was wretched. It was vile. It was contemptible. But I understate. It would seem Michael Kelly
Did not extend any eleemosynary.

Good Morning All,
I wish miss Bru would be more eleemosynary and give us a word with some poetic potential.
Might I suggest Djinn? In Islam, Djinns or Genies, are a class of spirits below that of angels that had the power to appear to mortals and affect them? The term comes from the small whirlwinds or 'Dust Devils' common on the Arabian penninsula.

In a mysterious way, it's actually a good thing.
John 15:18 "If the world hateth you, ye know that it hath hated me before it hated you. 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."

i see the point and am familiar with the passage, but i guess i just find it breathtaking what people are allowed to say about Christians, when were the same applied to ANYONE else of a creed or color, there would be holy hell breaking loose.
