In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

eleemosynary \el-e-MOS-i-ner-ee; el-ee-uh-MOS-i-ner-ee\, adjective:
eleemosynary, noun
eleemosynaries, plural

1. Relating to charity, alms, or alms-giving; intended for the distribution of charity; as, ``an eleemosynary corporation.''
2. Given in charity or alms; having the nature of alms; as, ``eleemosynary assistance''
3. Supported by charity; as, ``eleemosynary poor.''

``It is noteworthy that the heyday of laissez-faire, the middle and late nineteenth century in Britain and the United States, saw an extraordinary proliferation of private eleemosynary organizations and institutions.'' --Milton Friedman, Capitalism and Freedom

Etymology: The source of eleemosynary is Medieval Latin eleemosynarius, from Late Latin eleemosyna, alms, from Greek eleemosyne, from eleemon, pitiful, from eleos, pity.

School today for you or no?

Yes, in fact, I was at skool when I posted this morning.... and didn't have access to my perverse portfolio of pics of the Princess of Piffle and Prevarication. Otherwise, I'd have posted an image of the vile beast, just for you.

She probably was kidding, but I reserve the right to ponder the possibility, nonetheless.

I asked to see a photo of the "possibility", but she gave me some guff about how only her husband is allowed to see that.

It isn't a real trip, it is a business trip.

I am down in Boise. Calling on clients and god help me, going to a football game Saturday night.

I should be getting pity here......

Next week, on the other hand, is another story.............

Oh, xs, be careful tonight! Is the rain the remnants of Isidore?

i guess it is Isidore. It was just sprinkling this AM but they are saying potentially heavy T-storms this afternoon and evening. I can't see worth a dang driving at night in the rain. I would do just as well driving with my eyes CLOSED!

That article is FOS! Blonde and blue eyed are recessive, but they'll always be there.

Case in point: My family has all colors of eyes and hair (dad blonde, blue eyed; mom dark hair and dark eyes). My younger sister has the darkest hair and brown eyes. She married an Indian from India. He has dark hair and brown eyes. Their son has blue eyes, but he got his dad's earlobes. Earlobes are recessive, too. LOL!

The lights at night bother my eyes. I found that closing one eye while another car approached helped. Driving in the rain at night is a pain in the arse.
