The Verbivores | 9/25/02 | Mistress Bella and Miss Rika

Posted on 09/25/2002 6:45:01 AM PDT by Bella_Bru

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

assiduous \uh-SIJ-oo-us\, adjective:

1. 1. Constant in application or attention; devoted; attentive; unremitting.
2. Performed with constant diligence or attention; unremitting; persistent; as, assiduous labor.

"I can scarcely find time to write you even a Love Letter," Samuel Adams, an assiduous committeeman, wrote his wife in early 1776.
--Pauline Maier, American Scripture: Making the Declaration of Independence

Etymology: Assiduous is from Latin assiduus, constantly sitting near, hence diligent, persistent, from assidere, to attend to, from ad-, to + sedere, to sit.

Weird, isn't it? One day, it gets up to 400+ posts, then a few days later, we are barely at 40.

"is algore pregnant. He certainly looks like he is.
I wonder if Billyboy Xlinton is the father...."

Yikes, if that's true, the offspring will probably look like the figure third from the left on the evolutionary chart.

The non-smoking section in our casinos are always practically empty, but you can't get near a machine in the slots area.

The owner of the closest one to me testified that 75% of the revenues are from the slot machines in the smoking section. and because the slots operations are controlled by the state Lottery, the state information backed up his.

Did you see Strom's farewell speech on the Senate floor yesterday?
It included the classic line: "I love you all....and especially your wives."

If he kicked the bucket today, he'd probably have a big, fat smile on his face.

I didn't see it, but I can picture it well.

If Thurmond lives to be 200 years old, he'll still be an infinitely better orator than the junior Beast from NY or that stiff who "invented" the internet.

I don't think he's a "stiff" one.

I'm sorry, Grimmy. Please excuse my indiscretion.

Even setting aside the inflammatory and inapt reference to Jonestown, Jackson's analysis is frightening. It shows the Reverend's inability to permit anyone — but particularly blacks — to hold a diverging opinion about civil rights and race. Not even a lovably loud-mouthed character in a comic movie is permitted to depart from the views Jackson deems correct.

Jesse Jackson's assiduous attempts to get every black person into an "us vs. them" mentality has forced him to lash out at what is supposed to be a very clever movie. JJ doesn't want freethinkers, he want's minions!

Why Jesse Jackson's Not Amused

Was he standing on his crate?

Don't know. They usually don't shoot pictures of him that low.
