Ok, So what's the deal with "5", I have a general idea of what it is but i want specifics. You see it everywhere and in all forms, what the heck is "5"?, other than the number after 4, before 6. Did Freepers start this trend?

I saw an article by James Pinkerton today. You remember James -- he was the hairlipped fellow you used to see on all the talk shows during the Clinton impeachment. He was the former head of Readers Digest and is a RABID conservative.

I didn't see much comment on his article. It was spammed with the number 5.

I swear, if Newt Gingrich came on FR these days, and said something mildly critical or had a single reservation about the direction of the gov't these days -- NEWT HIMSELF would be shouted down with this '5' crap.

You guys are spamming threads, purposefully and with an intent to disrupt. Moderators USED to REMOVE efforts to disrupt threads. Not so much any more.

I expect what I am seeing -- a chance to discuss what is a clear and purposeful attempt to use this number to disrupt and shut down various threads. It is clear -- it is even admitted by various Freepers -- that the whole goal is to shout down and stop any semblance of cogent debate by the repeated posting of this non-message.

They have attached their identities to their opinions to the point that they simply cannot allow for their opinions to get shot down....if that happens, their identity goes down with it. It is sad and surely not honest debate.

Thing is, you could say this about anyone who posts any strong opinion here. I don't, for example, see posters on the "crevo" threads changing their positions due to the years-long debate over uncountable threads.

In the end...that is all most of them want anyway on account of their contrarian character.

Is there something inherently wrong with expressing an opinion that is not in synch with the majority?
