My mom was here visiting the past few days. We took her to the airport yesterday to fly home. I got an email from her telling me she got back safely. HOWEVER, she was flying on Southwest. You know, open seating. The flight was full. She got selected for "special attention". Must be something about those 77-year-old caucasion women that sets off alarm bells. They went through her suitcase and carry-on, wanded her thoroughly, and patted her down. She was the last one on the plane, and the plane then was late to take off. GRrrrrrr.
When I flew to Idaho last weekend, I was also selected for "special attention". However, the search was very superficial, and since the flight was nowhere near full, I had plenty of seats to choose from, and the flight took off on time. I guess us middle-aged and elderly white women look pretty threatening. I feel a lot safer now, don't you?
