I don't go to the aol board much....I know what you mean about the infighting....

I missed the arrival of the new posters...I have been back east for a Greek wedding of my neice....what fun....

sad that this crime will probably never be solved....which is a tragedy.

Look at all the press coverage they had...all the cops and the fbi...experts offering help from everywhere and a huge reward fund.....yet nothing....

then take a look at the Jennifer Short story...two parents murdered execution style and the little 9 year old abducted....not much coverage, a very small reward fund....yet this involved two murdered people...

if they can't solve the Smart case, with all the assets they had going for them, how can they solve all the other crimes like the Murder of Jennifer's parents and her abduction?

The Jennifer Short case certainly is an absorbing mystery.

One difference btw that case and this one is, there are no grieving parents left to doggedly pursue the search for their daughter. It appears that one of Jennifer's closer remaining relatives is all the way over in Alaska, and it must be hard for him to work in Alaska, while still staying in touch with an investigation in Virginia.

Another difference seems to be, that whatever church little Jennifer belonged to, it doesn't seem to be as large or as organized, with members who were willing to drop everything and go out in force to search for days all over the area, and not bothered by the fact that their involvement would bring on the unwarranted criticism and prejudice of people who are suspicious of them b/c of old incidents in their history.

The police in the Short case keep releasing statements to the effect of, "oh, there went our last lead, now what?" I get tired of hearing what seems to be their defeatist attitude. Maybe they are faking it, maybe trying to lull someone into a false sense of security in the hope of flushing him out. I hope so.

Funny, I'm almost as far from the Short case as I am from the Smart case. I find both equally absorbing. I'm sure if anyone related to Jennifer wanted to go on cable, they'd have some interviewers willing to have them on.

I wonder, if we started a thread on the Short case, would we have a cabal of people who tried to insinuate that Jennifer's choice of nightwear might be partly to blame for her being carried off?

Of course, we don't know yet whether Jennifer also wore "provocative" nightwear. You know, though, those girls who wear silk pajamas--if they end up being the target of some creep, well, they were just asking for it, anyway!
