AH, now that is the real question. When is enough enough? I agree that a lot of frivolous groundless appeals occur on death row, and courts should toss them out as meritless, and many times do.
I agree a confessed and admitted serial killer should not sit on death row for 20 years. But they cannot set the standard for all. I guess the question one has to ask is, if you were the one falsely convicted, what time frame would you desire?
I am an adamant supporter of capital punishment, but it is morally imperative that in cases where death is the punishment we are as close to absolutely sure as we can be. We cannot be callous with this punishment.. there is no take back or apology that can be offered if we find out we got it wrong.
I guess the answer is, I really don't know what the time frame should be. I do agree that when the killer is obvious and admitted, there is no good reason for them not to be executed swiftly, but in cases where it is not as cut and dry caution is a wiser path.
