Doggie and Jane ~~~ I just pinged you to a thread about the cooler found this morning. I didn't read the article so don't know if it contains any info or not.

*sigh* .... I've lost my 2 cents ......

I've been trying to reconcile a bank statement for hours ...... I'm 2 cents off and can't find it ......

..... color me frustrated.

I went to that Andrea Bocelli concert!!! What a magnificent night that was, with the Statue of Liberty in the background, and the Twin Towers, etc. Wow, I will never forget that evening.

Better 2 cents than 2 hundred dollars, which is sometimes how much I'm off when hubby forgets to tell me about an ATM withdrawal.

This is the business account ..... it has to come out to the penny. It's the computer reconcilation that is off and everything forever after will be messed up if it doesn't zero out. I would never spend that much time looking for 2 cents in our personal account.

I think I have just found it though ....... it's a bank error. They are rare but can make you pull your hair out when they do happen ........

UG - how long ago was it? Summer of 2001?

Dog - I wish I had taped it! It is almost surreal seeing them again.

It's usually much easier to find a larger error though ..... I'd much rather be looking for a $200 mistake than a 2 cent one. I've had to go through 125 checks, one at a time, about 3 times .... comparing them to the computer listing, comparing the amount on the check to the bank encoding, and finally comparing the amount on the check to the bank statement ...... that's tedious.

My opinion is that it is ALWAYS a bank error. Ha!

Thanks for pinging me to the article. The cooler contained a radiation tag from Three Mile Island, some jars of unknown stuff, and was duct-taped shut.

This is definitely in the "disturbing" category.

I'm glad you found the error. I am NOT good at accounting or reconciling statements. I'm always like "Well, that is close enough." I had heartburn when I had to do Accounts Receivable in the pharmacy.

The Andrea Bocelli concert was the summer of 2000. It runs occasionally on PBS here whenever there are fundraisers (grovelling for dollars.) I still haven't seen it on TV, I may purchase a copy of the video from PBS sometime.

Evening! Your daughter sounds like she is off to a good start in France, talking about cheese and all that. :) I'm really glad she arrived safely.

I'm sorry you are having such a bad day! (I haven't had a chance to finish all the thread yet......maybe it got better?) But I wanted to tell you two things.....

First, a belated Happy Birthday!

And secondly, over the weekend I was able to accomplish a Marpleized attack on the press.....in a subtle way. KMOX (News talk) radio sponsored an event called "St. Louis Cooks and Entertains" which I attended, and the station had all of its on air talent doing public appearances, and introducing many of the local chefs who were doing demos. If you remember Charles Jaco, from CNN during the gulf war he was always reporting from Riyad, Saudi Arabia, he is now a local talk show chatter in St. Louis. Every time I see him appear in public he looks like a complete slob. (The last few times I saw him were during Bush campaign appearances in 2000.) On Saturday, he was wearing a faded golf shirt, that was too small to fit over his spreading middle.....not tucked in. He always looks unshaven and unkempt. I'm telling any of you that remember his reports during the war, that you would not recognize him at all. While we were waiting for the chefs to get set up, Jaco, made a lame announcement about how we were waiting for one of the chefs to show up, and promptly said nothing more! NO programming.....DEAD AIR! Well, this citizen reporter decided it was the perfect opportunity to point out to my sister, my friend, and anyone else that could hear the sound of my voice......how appalling it was that KMOX would let one of their broadcasters make a public appearance looking the way he did. Some of the younger and "hungrier" on-air talent were appropriately dressed for a public appearance, and it was easy for me to point them out on the show-room floor. Jaco must have no pride in himself, the city or the station that he works for. (Well, I couldn't give him a bad haircut, but I did my best!)

Today, I heard that he is reporting from ground zero.....ugh!

Great job you did of being a citizen and not a spectator! That's a shame about Jaco ...... if I'm remembering him correctly he did a half-way decent job for cnn ....
