Baiona

The Pinta
We visted Baiona today, the first landfall of the Pinta on the return from America. The caravel was sent by Columbus to tell Ferdinand and Isabella of the discovery of the new land in the West. Among the thngs that the Pinta brought back from the Americas was the spirochaeta virus "trepoema pallidum" the origin of syphilis. Captain Pinzón was the first victim. It spread from Spain to the rest of Europe and by 1494 almost half the population was infected.
Notice the girl doing the Titanic thing - your AC/e photo journalist caught her in the act.

What a grand pic, of a grand ship....
And how fortunate to catch that young gal, doing her Titanic thing....
I have long admired, the explorers of old...how they had the courage and raw guts, to venture forth on the ocean, risking their lives for new discoveries....its amazing when you look at these ships, and realize the dangers they faced on those ocean voyages so many centuries ago...
Thanks for letting us see, in photos, those things and places we probably will never get to visit...
