".....to keep an eye on the older one?"
I have wondered about this myself. Not only did the shift in stories as to why the two girls shared a room (and even a bed) make me wonder......the story about MK accompanying Elizabeth on her supposed training runs for the track team also made me wonder. The seeming insistence that the two girls were "very close" despite their five-year age difference has made me wonder even more.
I know that it is very heartwarming to believe that a 14 y/o girl is very close friends with her 9 y/o sister, and that she seems to prefer her company over that of kids her own age. However, from a purely developmental standpoint, this goes against the norm. As a developmental rule, the teen years are a time when individuals actively seek independence from the family and gravitate to their own peer group. This is simply a part of normal development. To say that Elizabeth preferred being in the company of her 9 y/o sister is to say that she was not developing as a normal teen. Either Elizabeth was developmentally delayed, or her parents were simply blind to her needs for independence, or her parents were very well aware of her needs for independence and MK was being used to keep an eye on her.
Before I start hearing stories from those of you who shared a bedroom with a sibling, let me say that I also shared a bedroom with a younger sister. However, this was done because it was a necessity. My parents did not try to pass us off as being "best friends", nor were we expected to behave as such. We each had our own lives, our own friends, and as much privacy as my parents were able to afford us.
In closing, let me point out that if Lois was so concerned about fostering close relationships and good times among siblings, why were the four boys each given their own bedrooms?

Sheesh, do we really want to sit around and talk about the bedroom arrangements at the Smart home? I don't know, and I don't really care. You can sit and ruminate all you want, but what does this have to do with Elizabeth's abduction?
To: spore-gasm
Some parents just think sharing a bedroom is a good thing for kids, and I believe it was reported that Lois said she had fond memories of sharing a room with her own sister, and wanted her daughters to have the same experience. A family I was very close to while I was growing up had two girls who were required to share a room until the elder girl was a senior in high school. At one point they were living in a 4 bedroom apartment, but they still left two bedroms unused and had the girls share one.

Well, since you ask, I'll tell you. Perhaps I got a bit windy in my response, but I think the answer to your question lies in the following excerpt from my post: "Either Elizabeth was developmentally delayed, or her parents were simply blind to her needs for independence, or her parents were very well aware of her needs for independence and MK was being used to keep an eye on her."
It is my understanding that the goal here is to find Elizabeth. In order to do that, it would serve the public to have a clear picture of who she really was. Are we looking for a girl who is developmentally delayed and a bit "backward" for her age? Are we looking for a girl who is indeed a "normal" 14 year old, and who behaves as such? Or are we looking for a girl who is actually a bit of a "wild child" and who required oversight by a younger sibling?
The purpose of my post was to point out that the picture that has been painted of Elizabeth may not be entirely realistic......and that is what this has to do with Elizabeth's abduction. Thanks for asking.

I don't mean to be argumentative, but why does it matter? The only reason that it would is if you think she ran away, and then the searchers should be looking on the streets or something. Sorry, I don't get why it matters. And I do not believe she ran away. She may have gone with the intruder because she knew him, but I don't think it was with a good knowledge of what would happen to her, and remember, she had a gun pressed to her back.

Sherlock....As you can see Scared/Scaredycat suffers from visions!"
Please Please dont take me wrong I dont suffer from visions Im not a dreamer or a sight teller(profiler). I just know things that really bug the crap out of me because the police are not letting you know and the press arent touching the real info.

scared/scaredkat yeah thats me Im scared because I am 100% believing that the kidnapper was a very important person, (city offical) (le) (parole officer)this is why there is such a big cover from the police, fbi and they are making/letting the smarts think they are running the show. The smarts are not they may think so but theyre not. Has anyone here heard about the scaredstrieght that goes on with parents and teenagers? Parents do things to scare the children so they have better control with them? It happens in this state, they even have camps to send teens to by their parents. teens have also died from these scared camps. Also point to ponder this is called a kidnapping why? kidnapping deals with a ransome, abduction which all other missing children are listed under is when someunknown takes a child. Is there some kind of ransome going on we dont know about? Was she being sent to one of the camps or was it another scared parent thing that tom and ed and planned that went very very wrong?

I have taken His name upon myself and strive to live my life in accordance with the examples that He gave us. I do ask him for forgiveness and will continue to for as long as I walk this earth. Why do you feel the need to call me to repentance? Because you deny that you have a calling to support the Smarts on this thread.

Lois Smart said that that bedroom was built specifically for Elizabeth and Mary Katherine to share, that Lois remember many happy times in the bedroom she shared with her sisters growing up, and wanted her two daughters to have that same experience. And it worked, Elizabeth and Mary Katherine are very good friends LOL A house with that many bedrooms, they need to bunk together to become good friends? or "les-be" friends? I'm sure they had a lot of "secrets" between them, maybe thier boyfriends that the parents didn't know about, or wearign makeup when they went out, etc,They jogged together, or was that an excuse?

You know, those kinds of insinuations are pretty low. Elizabeth Smart was abducted at the point of a gun, and all some posters can do is obsess about the Smart family.
To: spore-gasm
My nieces and nephews all share rooms. It varies from family to family here. Why are you so obsessed with Elizabeth and Mary Katherine sharing a bedroom?
To: jo6pac
Because you deny that you have a calling to support the Smarts on this thread. Don't get me giggling now. You are too funny Joe.
