Ah yes, Christopher Lowell, a cross between Richard Simmons and Martha Stewart. He used to have some good ideas, I've used some of them in my home. But lately he is too frou-frou and busy for me.

I actually have Christopher Lowell's book. It is a very good primer in how to decorate a room.

I agree he has gotten too frou-frou lately. I do not like "precious" decorating, and perhaps the pressure of producing all those shows means he is running out of ideas.

I will now present for you "Miss Marple's Rules of Decorating":

1.) Most women prefer to decorate in the colors that they are most comfortable wearing.

2.) ALL people, when decorating a home, try to emulate (consciously or unconsciously) THEIR idea of "rich people" decorating. The key to understanding the differences in taste depends on whom you first think about when the word "rich" comes to mind. If you think of a movie star, you probably prefer contemporary or art deco. If you think of Blenheim Palace or Devonshire House, you prefer antiques and chintz. If you think of old New England money, you probably prefer 18th century antiques or country.

3.) Once a trend hits K-Mart, IT'S OVER.
