the desert is not barren as it looks in that pic
stuff grows everywhere here, the way it does everywhere else
but nothing grows tall here (it is not like forest)
no matter where you are climbing on a mountain you can see as far as the eye can see in all four directions
same goes with most everywhere else
nothing obstructs your view
