That blabbermouth Palo, better keep her trap shut about this incident, or else I shall have to come over there and steal her Lulu from her....I shall hold Lulu for ransom...I will feed her so well, and give her so much love, she will want to remain with me and Dizzy and BigDom...

BigDom will buy her special bakery cookies, and bring her water in a silver bowl, just like he did with Helga...

You hear that Palo? No snitching...

Well, BigDom has finished unloading the car, which means now I have to put everything away...Ugh...Wish I could just twitch my nose, and everything would fly out of the bags, and go to the correct place...I sure do get lazy and crochety in my later years....

Driving around town so much today, I was taking note of all the trees and bushes...lots of them are beginning to turn colors, and of course, signaling the beginning of the fall season, and the end of the summer fun....

The kids here dont go back to school until, I think the Tuesday or Wednesday after Labor Day...that is how it was when I was a kid living in Chicago...we never went back to school until the Wednesday after Labor Day...that was kind of nice, easing back into school, with just a two day school week for the first week of back to school...

But when living in North Carolina, the kids went back to school, nearly in the middle of August....of course since we did not go back to school until after Labor Day in Chicago, we did not get out for summer vacation until the middle of June...my boys, going back to school in mid August, got out the end of May...

I think in North Carolina, the timing of return to school actually had to do with harvesting of the tobacco crops...the kids who live on working tobacco farms, are integral parts of their families planting, caring for, and harvesting of tobacco....so I think they wanted the kids out of school by the end of May, to be free to help with the tobacco farms...by mid August, ,most of the tobacco has been harvested, and the kids are free to return to school...

One year while we were living there in North Carolina, the heat had really become excessive, much hotter than normal...and it was harvest time for the tobacco....most families do lots of the work themselves, and they also hire seasonal workers...but in that excessive heat, there seemed to be a series of work related deaths, a large number of people actually dropping dead in the tobacco fields...

So there was a ban on picking tobacco, until the temps lowered...I think that ban was in effect for about two weeks...It finally cooled down some, and the ban was lifted...but what about the kids returning to school?

Well, the solution was to postpone school for two weeks...and that is what happened...I just got a chuckle out of that...school put off by two weeks, due to too many kids needed in the tobacco fields, to help on their family farms...

For those of you who have never seen a tobacco field, when the tobacco plants are in full leaf, its really quite a sight...and watching the workers pick the tobacco is really quite interesting...every tobacco farm has these various bldgs on their farms called 'tobacco sheds; where they hang and dry out the big tobacco leaves....

Now when BigDom was first at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he was there a few months ahead of me and the boys, who were still in Chicago....when Mike was done with school, BigDom took leave time, and was going to come back to Chicago to get us...he looked around for a place for us to rent, but thought that since the houses were so cheap to buy, compared to Chicago, ,he decided to buy a house, without my having seen it...and that is what he did...

So he came back to Chicago, spent a little time there, and then we all headed out for Fort Bragg, North Carolina...we pulled in really late at night, and since the house keys were supposed to be at the Realtors, we dorve by there, not expected anyone to be there because it was so late...we figured we would have to spend the night in a motel...

But fate smiled, and the realtor was still at the real estate office...so we got the keys, and headed on our way...Now Bigdom had been to our new house, only twice, and then both times in the daytime...and since it was about 10miles off base he was not real familiar with the area, especially because it was just a little housing development, out in the country, and built, with many little tobacco farms surrounding it....

So when we finally got on the right road, and headed up that road, it was pitch dark, and pretty devoid of house and people and such...all I remember seeing was those old tobacco sheds, something I had never seen before...

I kept thinking to myself, good grief, is BigDom going to put us up in one of those old looking shacks...Having let him buy us a house all his own, without my approval, was beginning to look like a very bad idea...

However, we finally did find the housing area, and found out house, which turned out to be a wonderful, delightful little home for us, with lots of rooms, and lots of landscaping on a huge lot....so we were impressed...

But to this day, whenever I see a pic of a tobacco shed, or remember back in North Carolina, when driving by the farms we would see the sheds, I am reminded of how I thought I was going to have to live in one of those old creaky bldgs..

Now I best shut up and put the groceries away...see ya all later...
