Good points. I don't know if Elizabeth was already awake when the perp came into the bedroom, or what. One thing is for sure, many parents are teaching their children to make noise, a lot of noise if they are ever approached by a stranger with or without a gun. It would have made a difference in this case.
Unfortunately, we'll probably never know what went on the bedroom from Elizabeth's standpoint.
