I'll cut the vDams some slack here. Luminol has a purple dye and standard print-dust is coal-black. Sprinkle some charcoal dust in front of your door-way and look at the carpet after a week.

According to a poster on another forum (the San Diego Union-Tribune), Damon sold the van, replacing it with a used BMW, in February 2002 - so very soon after the kidnapping.
