Sort of. Embedded systems is the EE/CE buzz term for the middle ground in processors and automation. Like the chips and software in your cell phone, or a modern washer and dryer. TVs and VCRs and the like have several embedded systems integrated into a larger system.
Very low-level(a counterintuitive term -- only the most advanced people understand low-level) programming AND real electrical engineering understanding. While the rest of the programming world is struggling, these guys are raking it in.
Very little competition at that level of expertise.
The field is an example of something that I reacll from school -- some EE profs sneering at computer science. EEs invented computers, and computer science is the only "science" whose sole purpose is to study something created by men from another science.
Computer science people don't do embedded. That's an electrical engineering field.
