He didn't ask Neal to go along, b/c Neal was in school. And, yes, Neal know his father was going on a weekend trip a *week prior*.

The co-worker DW invited to go along with him, he phoned him on the day before (Thursday). That man said he had clients to meet with, but would call DW back. (He said he never got around to calling DW back though.)
