Well, here I am a little early...dang phone was ringing early this morning, and I had to get up and answer, and then could not get back to sleep...so came here...I hate being up this early, but when you cant sleep, well, FR is at least here for me...
Lots of food talk going on here...for BigDoms dinner, I am making some sort of dish using lots of stir fried veggies, and jumbo prawns....Safeway had 2 lb bags of frozen prawns(10-12 count)for just $12...thats just $6 a lb, and thats mighty cheap for prawns that big...so we will have them today, along with some steamed rice and a big salad...
BigDom insists on a big salad with every meal...he loves his salad...also insists on a big variety of things in his salad(he likes about 12 ingredients in his salad)...no head lettuce whatsoever, just all other types of lettuce and greens, and then load on other things like carrots, red onions, broccoli, cauliflower, pea pods, green and black olives, sunflower seeds, artichoke hearts, red and green peppers, beans, etc. etc. etc...and then only olive oil and vinegar(all different flavors and varieties of vinegar)....
Hes a salad eating man....
The last summer that we were down to my mom and dads before my dad had died, dad was pretty sick with cancer and moms Alzheimers was steadily increasing in abnormal behavior...I was doing most of the cooking for BigDom and Andy and myself, and for mom and dad....
But mom wanted to make BigDom his salad(everyone knew he had to have his salad, even if no one else was having one)...so I figured, being as it was only salad, and she did not have to use the stove, she would be safe, if I just supervised her with the sharp knife...so there she was, in the kitchen, humming along, and making BigDom his salad...
Well, we all sat down to eat dinner...cannot remember what I made for dinner....but BigDom kept nudging me, trying for mom not to notice...finally I paid attention, and he lowered his salad bowl to show me moms salad...she had a surprise ingredient in there for him...hidden underneath the lettuce, was a great big sharp piece of cobalt blue glass...good grief, what was mom thinking, or doing, putting glass in his salad...obviously her Alzheimers was really getting out of hand....
Had he actually bitten down on that thing, he would have really cut his mouth....we never did say anything to mom, as she would not have even remembered doing this...dad collected all manner of cobalt blue glass bottles and jars and figurines, and even if one piece broke, dad kept the broken pieces in a clear glass jar.....mom must have gotten Doms salad treat from there...
There was no glass in anyone elses food...I guess mom thought a big hunk of blue glass in a salad, just made it rather pretty...
