I got this e-mail today and it just cheered me up. I really hope it's true, because if it isn't, it sure should be. I can assure you that when my family goes out to eat this weekend, it will be at Outback.

Outback in Afghanistan Story - July 2002
This one is real. The e-mail rumor was taken almost verbatim from a July 2, 2002 St. Petersburg Times article by Tamara Lush. Well done Outback!

Wow, we should all go out to Outback sometime soon, then! Okay, but only if Tamara Lush (the reporter in #5) accompanies us.
Hope she doesn't name a son after Rush Limbaugh!

best of all, a deep-fried Bloomin' Onion This guy actually believes a friggin' onion is better than a ribeye or shrimp?! Must be one of those tree-huggin' granola munchers...
I know where I'm eating this weekend.

Ate dinner last night at "Outbacks" with my wife. Usually have steak, last night it was salmon. Really like their 22 ounce frosted beer muggs, filled to overflowing with Fosters. ;)

Hey, it turns out that this story is definitely TRUE. It was first reported in the St. Petersburg Times on July 2, 2002. The link is here: http://www.sptimes.com/2002/07/02/Worldandnation/Heaven_in_time_of_war.shtml
Way to go Outback and keep a few ribeyes and onions hot for the joebuck clan this weekend! All Freepers are encouraged to support this resturant chain that chooses to support our soldiers rather than critisize our country.

You can get a rib eye or shrimp anywhere Not if you are a U.S. soldier currently stationed in Afghanistan.

Is there a veteran's ping list?? I'm sure many of them would be interested in this. I am passing this on to many of the vets I know.

I'm not sure about a veteran's ping list, but I have been forwarding this column to everyone I know encouraging them to go to Outback this week and thank them for their efforts. It's a pretty cool thing when you can show your patriotism by chowing down on a juicy ribeye with all the trimmings. Is this a great Country or what?

Bloomin' Onion is no regular onion--breaded and deep fried, mmmm mmmmm good. I think I know where I want to eat tonight....

Point conceded.

If you're ever in the Phoenix area, let me know - the first Bloomin' Onion and Fosters is on me.
