Not to mention lying in wait to harass citizens for MINOR traffic violations. It just goes to show that revenues outweigh fighting real crime in many cases, and is far more profitable. Very sad in my opinion.

Thats a pretty bold statement for any police department to make.... sounds like they know more than they are telling (as usual).

I think vice squads serve a purpose -- prostitution areas attract serial killers. Thriving prostitution does not make a town safer.... nor does porn keep men from committing sex crimes. Almost every rapist has a houseful of pornography. Police don't readily report this - reporters must ask specific questions, and they rarely do. I always did ask if the perp possessed porn when I was reporting such crimes and arrests. Almost always the answer was yes.

On Fox last night (I think it was on O'Reilly) there was a lady on who was supposed to be a parenting expert. She was saying that there are an average of 30,000 child abductions in this country per year! I had no idea it was so rampant. Why do we only hear about certain ones?

That's one way to keep serial killers from bothering the general population. Give them plenty of hookers. For them it is an occupatoinal hazard.

I don't think porn does any good, but I don't think it does any harm either, what it is is nobodies damned business.

Back in the early 50's my dad's two little stepsisters were kidnapped by his stepfather. My dad was in the service (life was hell at home so he went away even before graduating hs) and his stepfather had a doctor sign a paper committing his mom to an institution and ran off with another woman and their daughters.
My dad had to take an emergency leave and get his mom out of the hospital -- she went to court and won custody of the girls, but by then he had disappeared with them. She came from a big family, and a few years later her sister working as a waitress halfway acroos the country saw the ex and girls come into the restaurant and she called the police and the girls were returned to Grandma - but by then the dad had told them so many stories about how their mom didn't want them that they were afraid and unhappy, and were soon abducted again out of their yard by him.
It's not a new situation at all.

I'm not trying to minimize the problem. There have been more horrible cases in the last 6 months. I just hope they catch the butchers. It seems they prefer California, perhaps because they have no death penalty.

Yes, I know it is a common story and sometimes it is justified, but in most cases it is very sad and condemns the children to a life of uncertainty and mistrust.

I always thought that the picture of Polly Kloss's killer giving the finger to the cameras helped pass the 3 strikes law in CA.

I think there are a number of reasons why so many of these incidents occur in California, not the least of which is the liberal "nobody is accountable for their actions" mentality. Add to the mix problems with education and morality and a large portion of the population that don't even speak the language and there are bound to be major issues.

That said, there also seems to be a lot of these things happen in Texas too, and they DO have the death penalty . I think that most of these people who commit such crimes, particularly crimes against children, are way past the point where they are thinking much at all.
