Thanks Loddy. I'm glad I got home before the fever hit me -- I've been out of it most of today -- would have hated to waste a day on the trip with a stupid fever.

Oh no! What a drag. No, it wouldn't have been any fun on the road. We took a 3 week trip once when Dawn was 2 1/2 and she came down with chickenpox while we were on the road. Imagine what fun that was to sit in a hotel day after day just 20 miles from Disney World waiting for her to recover. We did eventually go, but she never was feeling up to par.

The air is much clearer there despite the fires than in the Blue Ridge Mtns for distant viewing.

That's what 85% humidity will do for you. (When it's around 90° fahrenheit)

All last week, it was that way. The viewing is SPECTACULAR though, when the air is drier.

Wow - nice llamas. At that age, everythings an adventure and something to learn and savor. Very nicely done.

all I know is that I had to threaten to abandon the kids by the side of the road if they dared to flip off a driver while I was behind the wheel... it's not civilized.

Not only that, but here in NC, that will get you spun out of the next curve. Ask Mo for details on how to spin somebody out.

Goodness - you can't be surprised with the way you pushed yourself getting back home. Lottsa fluids (not wine), Vit C, and the rest of those guys, aspirin, and SLEEP, hopefully will do the trick overnight.

Grab a nice hot shower now, and GO TO BED - SOON.

I'll be doing the same shortly. ;-)

The fresh air felt good on the mountaintops, and the smell of peppermint leaves was fresh.

I kept hearing on the radio that the forest fires in Canada were worsening the haze of the Blue Ridge Mtns.

There were lots of motocycle riders on the parkway -- that's the best way to take in the view of the drive.

If you REALLY want to enjoy the parkway, being there while every other Idiot from W. VA, Ohio, PA, and MI is ALSO THERE, is NOT the way to go about it.

Go back up there about the third week in October, when the air is drier. But take along a jacket.

There are some bluegrass Mountain Music festivals up there, that would make an astute photographer a mint full of money.

Yeah, sure, I'll hop in the van and go back in October while the kids are in school.
Despite the crowded parking lot at the mountaintop, we met very few cars on the road. They must have heard about me and waited at the lots until I passed by and it was safe to venture back out again.
The mountain music festivals would be fun to photograph.

True and with a notebook and printer that ran on 12v you could sell a lot of prints on the spot.

Good to see that THEY have adjusted your dosage.

Its possible, but your pics look like half of the days during a normal summer anyway, without any huge fires raging elsewhere.

Asheville is sure a cool city. I like the little mountain towns just out of the city, too. We stayed a night in Waynesville and I took a lot of pictures of the countryside there while the kids swam at the motel pool. The next morning we drove the Parkway.

I have a North Carolina folder at Fotki that I'm adding to as the days go by. I've posted most of them on the thread - but not all.

I like Boone a little better. But both places are Leftist bastions.

Yes, That section of the Blue Ridge has the most spectacular autumn foliage in the country

And probably a useless, latent "Y" chromosome too.

Teeman was telling me that he liked your Maryland pics; He said they made him nostalgic.
