Rosanno is my idea of the perfect man. He would be very, very hard to say no to.

Van was also my guess. Barry Manilow--gosh, I haven't thought about him for years! Is he still performing?

I don't know where you live, BWB, but leaving Hollywierd to "find a good man" is no guarrantee of success. I'm inclined to agree wholeheartedly with Sandra's take on things.

Barry Manilow spring to mind

I hadn't even thought of Barry, but he always seemed light in the loafers to me. Carolina, he still performs. I want to say that I just saw a commercial recently that he was playing at a casino in the Chicago/NW Indiana area.

;-) My mind conveniently forgot the loading/unloading thingie. But on the Canal, we passed through the heart of so many towns and villages that had markets and vendors that the grub was never a problem.
Plus the local restaurants were so very reasonably priced we couldn't resist eating out - a lot. They all had the starched, pressed table cloths and creatively folded napkins, the fresh flowers at the table, the candles - just everything you would expect French restaurants to have, including the killer pastries and breads. Real butter, thank you.
Even in the most podunk of villages, the waiters were at least in black trousers, tux shirt, cumberbund and tie - really quite lovely. The ladies were properly seated at the table, and fantastic dinners were enjoyed by all - except the kids who were pre-fed something on the boat.

There were all manner of vessels to behold; from sailboats of all sizes, to tied-off trawlers on which the free of spirit lived their lives.
Some of the locks were quite small and we jumped ashore and did the manual labor ourselves to get the boat to the next level. One time, I swear that the lock keeping couple were having some afternoon delight whilst we were operating their lock - about half way through the operation, they came rushing out of the lock-keeper's cottage arranging themselves and trying to look as officious as possible. Which was quite impossible with her hair in total disarray, and his shirt half tucked into his jeans. I've always regretted that interruptus for them.

" He should pound tiny tommy flush with the ground."

I'd be happy to lend a hand with that.

Why, Barry just headlined w/the Boston Pops on July 4th. It was really tacky - to promote his new album or concert tour or something. He was awful.

I didn't mean that she had to physically leave California, but I think if she got out of the business itself and did something she enjoys her chances of coming across a more desirable man might be higher. Who knows though?

It makes me sad if she really thinks this way because she's been sucked in the "Oh I can have babies whenever I get around to it" mentally. These women have been lied to and at her tender age of 37, if she wants to birth her own babies, she'd better get busy. In addition she's being blinded by the lie that women can raise children without a father by intention. It's frustrasting knowing that another seemily intelligent women has had the wool pulled over her eyes.

It's a different story when a mother is widowed or doesn't have a choice to remain in her marriage, actually those children fair better than those who have been born to women who had no intention of having a father in the child's life.

She needs to make a choice, her career or be a mom. I make no judgements on her desicions, but she's old enough to know by now, it's time to fish or cut bait.

On another subject I know you love to sail, did I ever tell you that my dad had a Fisher 25? It was really nifty boat, I'll try to find a pic of one. When he was in the service he bought a boat in England and named it after me. He and some buddies decided they would sail from Lowestoft, England to Miami, 6,000 miles. They got as far as the Canary Islands and had to get back (they ran out of time for the journey) so they wouldn't be AWOL. Darn it!

Can you even imagine if Jenna or Barbara were (pardon my bluntness) screwing and drinking their way through Europe the way Chelsea is? My gosh, the WashPost's Lloyd Groves almost had palpitations over the possible but unconfirmed sighting of one of the twins having a Budweiser at Stetsons in D.C., but Chels trollops along at $3,000 per night hotels sucking down $300 bottles of champagne, sucking face in limousines before passing out in a drunken stupor, and it's "we must respect her privacy."

I don't think there's ever been any question about Barry Manilow's orientation. Mention of him made me chuckle, as I had a friend in college years and years ago who just couldn't stand him and called him "Barfy" Manilow - now I can't get that name out of my head!

Ha! Barfy Manilow is so a propos. "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl..."

Well, Chels is under mandatory transformation with that "internship." With the AFV ad attacking the President and the JW suit against the Veep, we've got the signal that Hil's running in 2004.

Today's news:

GET ready for a new, more chic Laura Bush. The First Lady popped into Carolina Herrera's Seventh Avenue showroom yesterday and spent 21/2 hours there. President Dubya's wife has taken a lot of grief in the past for choosing Dallas-based designer Michael Faircloth and First Mom Barbara's favorite, Arnold Scaasi. "Neither look has done well for her," sniffed a hopeful fashionista who witnessed Bush's heavily guarded drop-in at Herrera. Page Six

Bill Clinton news:

BILL Clinton is crying poverty. The former horndog-in-chief, who charges upward of $250,000 per speech, recently tried to pick up some pricey paintings on the cheap, claiming he was short of cash.

Last week, a Manhattan art collector got a call from a dealer who was interested in buying some paintings by Southern folk artist Mary Whitfield for a "celebrity" client, an insider says. The collector, who assumed the client was noted Whitfield enthusiast Oprah Winfrey, informed the dealer that the price of one painting of particular interest was $6,000.

"My client is a little short of cash and can't pay the full amount," the dealer responded after relaying the information. "Will you take $5,500?"

When the collector expressed surprise that Winfrey didn't have the money, the dealer informed him it was in fact Clinton.

"He just laughed and turned him down," says a friend of the collector. "Skimping him on $500? What's that about?" Clinton's office did not return calls.

More 'toon news:

THINGS may be hotting up again in Bill Clinton's reported search for a hideaway home in Ireland. Earlier this year we had the squire of Chappaqua on the brink of buying a house on a fine Irish fishing lake, but then it all went quiet.

Now I'm told that beloved former Irish Prime Minister (and close friend of Bill) Bertie Ahern is in negotiations to buy a $3 million island in Kenmare Bay on the lovely Ring of Kerry. Bertie has his own place, so the locals are convinced he's fronting for Clinton or his other crony, Pierce Brosnan. James O'Shea, who owns the West Street Grill in Litchfield, Conn., was just in Kenmare throwing a birthday party for his 80-year-old mum and reports that the neighbors can't decide whether they'd rather have the Old Horndog or Agent 007 move onto their lush turf. I remember seeing that photo when the magazine was on the newsstands, and experiencing a wave or two of nausea.

Speaking of nauseating, the Washington press corps complains that the Bush White House isn't catering to their every desire, story here.
