Swinging, the practice of swapping romantic partners, has had a makeover.

Gone are the big-hair, gold-chain '70s-style swingers who gathered in suburban tract homes. Today's energetic couplings have made their way into mainstream resorts and upscale commercial venues.

"There are people who see the market potential and are opening clubs and agencies to cater to the lifestyle," said Tony Lanzaratta, a former Los Angeles police officer who is executive director of NASCA, a national organization of swingers. "The lifestyle tour and travel industry has more than tripled in the last five years."

This reminds me of that scene in "Raising Arizona" where some lowlife tells Nicholas Cage he's into "Swingin' man, you know...wife swappin'" and Cage punches him in the face.

I know I'm going to get slammed for this opinion, but from all these replies, I see a lot of intolerence here. Yes, I am a Libertarian (capital L), and as I see it, what consenting Adults choose to do in the privacy of their bedrooms, as long as it does not harm others, is their choice, no matter how repulsed anyone else is by the behavior.

While we can decry the practice on moral grounds, True Freedom means defending that which you vehamently disagree with. The rights of the minority are just as important as the rights of the majority. What skeletons might be hiding in your closet that someone else might find offensive?

Intolerence is not a purvue of only the Left, it would seem.

Paging the Live Like I Do Brigade... paging the Live Like I Do Brigade... some people somewhere aren't adhering to your tenets...

Our tenets? No, they're not ours. They're called the Commandments and they're God's.

And our concern that they're being trampled on comes not from some narrow-minded desire to enforce a homogeneous, joyless life. Rather, from a knowledge of the consequences.

You've only heard about 'Hedonism' now? It's full of fat English gits and peroxide blonde idiots in for a free ride (in whatever meaning of the word). Yeah...classy.

They have made a comedy 'real-tv' documentary about the place.

Trailer trash on tour.
Welcome to PUKES-VILLE.

I saw an HBO "Real Sex" episode that went inside one of these clubs. The participants seemed like real idiots, and not great-looking . . .

I think I saw that same one. I really have to admire you for your tact and diplomacy in using the phrase, "not great looking" and not something like say, "paper bag ugly" like I would have used.

The right to do whatever desire strikes you is the right to harm yourself and others.

I agree that folks should be free to screw up their lives. I also have the right to try to convince you of the harm you do and encourage you to spend your precious life in creating more good and less harm.

No one can harm just themselves. Ask your spouse, your siblings, your parents, your friends. When you are hurting they hurt - if they truly care for you.

"Marriage is still the most sacred institution in our country."

If this is true, and this article and the statistics on single parents and divorce are true, then this is a sad comment on the values of this country.

"Mattresses were covered in white sheets."

This conjures up an absolutely revolting image...I am quite sure the sheets don't get changed between...um..."events".
