you are right andysmom
Lulu loves her home here with me and Happy and Bill
she was unhappy and wild when she came to us
her previous daddy loved her, but he was never home
she was on long wire tied up all the time (they had no fence)
she ran away from home all the time
when she was with us two weeks, I noticed she got her glossy sheen
she was shining with happiness

Thats so sad, that Lulu was tied up, for long periods of time, with no human to love and cuddle her...bassets(really most breeds) are people oriented, and just love and crave human contact and affection...to me dogs are just like human babies in that respect...they need to be held and loved and pet, and need to feel the warmth of human contact...without it they can be wild, and isolated, and so unhappy, and just wont thrive...
I am so glad that Princess Lulus former daddy, realized that he could not give her what she needed, and decided to give her to you and Bill and Happy....
That was Lulus lucky day...
