Too much of SF today is ESCAPIST. And don't even get me started on Fantasy. SF that I have enjoyed is most of Vonnegut, Heinlein, Asimov, and others of that era. I haven't really seen anything new in SF in the past few years that has grabbed me. LOTR was an enjoyable read but I just couldn't get into Simalliron(sp?). As for the Dune series it seemed like intergalatic Arab stuff. However, I did once make a quick $200 profit on a hard cover Dune Encyclopedia book that I bought on a Sunday and that sold the following Wednesday on eBay for $202.50.

As to the polls. I wonder how many folks in those polls even bothered to read the great literary works? Most of them seem satisfied with their little SF pills.

Why, because there was sand?
