That picture of Massa Abe and Bedbug Billy isn't complete without Firebug Phil and The Sot himself. Those four are the messiah and apostles of the GOP.

While I support the right of the Southern States to secede, I believe that once you are at war you do everything necessary to win and so I don’t blame General Sherman for his actions during Sherman’s march. Just like when we dropped Nukes on Japan it is sometimes necessary to convince the citizens to withdraw their support for the war.

Thanks a ton for the ping. I live here in Columbia now (going on five years) and work downtown cattycorner to the First Baptist Church, where the SC secession convention started in December 1860.

People coming to Columbia note that it looks nothing like a Charleston or Savannah, it's a decent enough place but it's actually sort of generic and sterile. Well, that's because of two things: (1) it was always planned to be the seat of government for South Carolina--was one of the first planned, gridded cities in the nation, in fact--and is not in a very scenic or historical location; and (2) Sherman's Urban Renewal Plan. There are very few buildings in Columbia that predate 1865--much fewer than you'd expect for a city that's been here since 1780ish.

If people don't understand why Southerners won't let go of the War, let them come to Columbia, to a place where 75% of the historical markers end with "...burned by Union troops on February 17, 1865." It gets your attention.
