For some reason, I have a remarkable memory for family happenings...I dont know why it is...many family members will call me up, wanting to know this or that fact...I can remember 30 yrs ago, events that took place, who was there, who wore what, who said what, what we had for dinner, etc. etc....

Also my dad was a tremendous talker, and often told us over and over again, all the family stories...often when dad wanted to go fishing, he would pack us all up, with the tent, and we would spend the weekends fishing and camping, and cooking out...

And always the campfire...thats always when we asked dad to tell us about the family...and he spun his stories, and we were really enthralled with the whole thing...of course, having such lively and odd family members is what actually made the stories so grand...

But with my really good memory for all family happenings, and having dads stories firmly burned into my mind, I just am able to somehow keep my weird old family alive...

When I call my aunt Helen(my dads sister) down in California, we always exchange the new and current news of our families...and then we always lapse into telling each other the old stories of the family...

Sometimes we are both hysterical on the phone, because these stories are so funny and we are both laughing so hard...As my aunt Helen says when she is referring to her and my dads relatives..."They were all nuts" And then she adds, that she and my dad and I have not fallen too far from that nutty tree...

LOL.. I understand.. My sister was our family historian. She was 17 years older than me, and of course knew all the family history.. Us kids always wanted her to make tapes or videos of all her knowledge and all her salty jokes and songs.. She was a riot, and we sure miss her. She was the matriarch and so many things disappeared with her..

Our family sounds a lot like yours.. My Mom's family had many fisherman and origanlly came from Nova Scotia, by way of Germany.. My Dad's were pisspots from England.. lol

Let me clarify my post by saying, the oldsters were not that much fun..but my Mom's family were all hell-raisers, and were such humorous people.. That still continues on, for the newest generations.. My Dad was a devil and loved having fun..and most of the family takes after him and my Mom..
