Mom.. you and I have a boy born on the 2nd of July...
Guess what, didn't you say you were a keypuncher? So was I.. Isn't that funny? It's so amazing sometimes how much people have in common..
Did I tell you that I collected dolls when I was young? I did, and I had quite a collection from all over the world.. Unfortunately when my Dad died, my brother and SIL sold them without my Mom's or my knowledge.. To say we were mad would be an understatement..
They sold everything for a dollar or two.. Even my Dads Oval, bevel glassed pic of him during the First World War.. Approximately 16x20. A beautiful thing. All his Shriner things were sold..hat, sword, bible... everything.. Never in my life have I seen so little respect for ones father and what his life was to us all..
I was only sixteen, so knew little of what was going on, but it all hurts me to this day.. Families can be wonderful or they can be mean.. I can't believe the things that were lost to us because of two peoples selfishness..
I guess I'd better go to bed.. ;)

hi andysmom
I remember turnin' 28
my friend Linda back in nyc used to say ''8s are all big''
I kinda see what she meant now
at 8 I stopped bein' a little girl and turned into a big girl
at 18 I realized the teens were over
and at 28, there was a shift too
I think it's nice he drops in unexpectedly so you don't have to do deep cleaning ahead of time :)
I think he's having a ball havin' a motor boat
I will get my teddy bear in the floral dept of my supermarket, you came up with good idea for me

My goodness Grannie...both of us with our boys born on the 2nd of July...isnt that something...They are indeed Yankee Doodle babies...
Indeed, I was a keypuncher, first for a few banks back in Chicago, when I was in school..started out on the 029s punchers, and the 059s, the verifiers...then worked for Monkey Wards, in downtown Chicago...there were had the 129s, and the 159s...then a few years later, we got the screened machines called Inforex...had those up until I quit, after I had my second baby, my Yankee Doodle guy...
Thats so sad about your dads things being sold...I always think family treasures should be kept, and cherished..I am so thankful for all the things I have from my great grandparents, grandparents, and my parents...and I have given my son the ground tour, of what are family items, and should be kept...actually we have already started giving him lots of family items now...
We have had those items for so long, so slowly we are giving them to my son, so he can get used to having them around...two of his most cherished items, are his great grandfathers gold pocket watch(from my husbands grandfather), and another tiny ladies gold watch on a chain(from my mothers mother)...he has them both in glass globes and stands...
We have also given my son all my dads pics and medals and such from his WW11 days...also most of the pics that my dad painted are with my son...
And I have lots and lots of woodcarvings that my dad carved...the son knows to never part with them.....
I know these are just things, but there is some sort of link between present day family, and the owners of those things, from generations past...
Its too bad about those dolls...I am sure they would have been dearly treasured by you...
I once worked with a lady, who knew I loved dolls...one evening she came to work, with this little tiny doll, and she gave it to me...it had been hers, as a child, but none of her kids really wanted or appreciated it much...so she gave it me, because she knew I would take good care of it, and it would have a home with someone who would love it...
I cherish that little doll, because it was loved by the little girl, that this woman once was...
I dont know what my son will do with all my dolls...if he never marries, or never has any daughters, I expect he will just someday sell them...but thats ok with me...I want my dollies to have a good home, after I am gone...
My family left me with an incredible amount of 'stuff'...from their own collecting, ,and also saved from generations passed on...I just feel a connection with those things...but I know, many people just dont feel that way...they just consider that 'stuff' a clutter.....
Have a good sleep, Grannie...

If you cannot find a suitable one, and I find one I think is a 'Palo' teddy, I will get it and send it to you...
Its funny what you can find in floral departments of grocery stores...our Albertsons and Tops grocery stores, dont have a large selection of miscellaneous items, but our Super Safeway, just a few minutes from the house, has a really big floral dept. and always has lots and lots of seasonal miscellaneous items, besides floral stuff...
All stores are different, so dont know what you will find in your grocery store...but do check out the floral dept, you might be surprised at what you find there...
The son says, turning 28, he suddenly finds himself almost being part of the 'over 30' crowd, and is not sure how he feels about that...I told him by the time, I was 28, I had been married for years, and had two boys...he just shakes his head, as he cannot imagine himself having a wife, and children...says hes just not ready for that yet...
Someday, maybe when hes 40, he will be ready...hes too busy, with other things right now...
Thats for sure, just dropping in, gives me no time for special housecleaning for his visit...
Of course, he was interested in chasing down Dizzy, and giving him some special loving and pets...

My husband does not have much family left...his mom left him when he was a baby, his dad died 4yrs ago, both his grandparents(who raised him) are gone, his favorite aunt died a few years ago...
He is still close to his uncle(his dads brother), and his wife...they are in Florida, and have been there for almost 30yrs...the hubby will be visiting them next year for his spring vacation, instead of going back to Chicago...His aunt and uncle never had any kids, so they kind of look on my husband as their son...
They are both getting more aged now, and both had serious operations this year, so he wants to start spending more time with them, now that their health is not so good...
To: andysandmikesmom
I don't have any stuff from my grandparents
except my wedding ring
it was my mom's mother's wedding ring
and when I married Bill she gave it to me
it fit perfectly and since I didn't have a wedding ring
it is now my wedding ring
just simple 14k goldband
(her marriage was disaster tho, my mom's mother and father fought all the time, then divorced)
one day I met girl who had identical wedding ring, she was cherokee girl who got hers from her jewish grandmother

thank you andysmom
lol I was gonna ask you if son and Dizzy had reunion
it was your son who brought Dizzy to you
yup, the icky thing bout turnin' 28 is I realized I was gonna turn 30
when I was little kid sometimes I'd ask my mom how old are you
she used to say ''some women don't like to say their age but I am 33''
so when I turned 28 and realized it meant I was gonna be 30
I said ick I turned into my mom
I thought it meant I was old

I think its lovely that you have your grandmothers wedding ring...I love old jewelry, jewelry which has been worn by someone else...I just like old things...I also like old book, especially old books which have dedications written on the front pages, indicating who gave the book and to whom...and the date...And I also love when people write their thoughts in the margins of books..
Somehow, to me, old things, which have been owned and loved by other people, are just are very special...
My dad was an avid reader, and kept most of his books, which I still have...on the front blank page of his favorite books, he drew a quarter moon, with a face, and smoking a cig or cigar...and then wrote, that this book was the 'Property of' ...and then his name...but even without his name, that drawing of that moon, was his signature for all his books...
To: andysandmikesmom
your hubby is not gonna go back to chicago next year!!!!
what about the big reunion with his friends from first grade!!
this is big deal!

Yes, the older we get, the more our perceptions of age change...the last time I went to the opthamologist for an eye exam, the doctor who did the exam, was surely young enough to be my son...it really made me a bit uneasy...
My husband turns 60 next year, and he is not looking forward to that...in one way, its nice, because its a year closer to retirement, but he doesnt like the fact, that he actually got to be 60 so fast(at least it seems so fast)...he says it seems like only yesterday, he was a young dude, living the fast life...Now he is looking forward to retirement...you blink your eyes, and life whizzes by..thats why we must make every minute, every day count for something...
To: palo verde
Yep, the hubby told his friends, that the last visit he made this past May, would probably be the last one for a few years....he wants to spend a few spring vacations with his aunt and uncle, because of their precarious health situation....
But he will surely miss his Chicago trips...I guess thats why he took such a big bankroll this last time, and did so much...because he knew he would not be back for a while...
To: andysandmikesmom
there was some stuff in my parents' apt from before I was born
that they still had whenever I went back to visit
one was an ashtray which said ''heaven help the poor working girl'' (it had a cartoony picture on it too)
lol I wonder if that was from my dad's apartment from when he lived alone before he met my mom
but if I had it here, it would bring back too many memories
when I was writer I liked shifting from the present to various times in the past
I don't know if I would like it now tho
Love, Palo
To: andysandmikesmom
that is intense that his Chicago trips are not planned as part of his yearly routine for time being
he may find it a treat to be in florida in may tho
cause it seemed to me your chilly rainy winter lasted all the way up till May
and Florida is the sunshine state

Sometimes I like to go back in my mind to the past, and see how much has changed since then...and its a lot that has changed...
My son could not believe, that when I was born, my parents did not have a TV...they did not get one until I was about 5 or 6...kids, when they are growing up, seem to think that we had all the things that they have, and when they find out we did not have those things, sometimes they are astounded...
Good grief, its still raining here..we are ready to float away...usually it does not rain all day long, but today its doing just that...
And now Dizzy wants attention...so need to go for a while...
Will try to get back later, if I dont fall asleep, or have other unexpected visitors...
See ya later...

I have noticed your writing is accelerating...into wider sentences ;-)Evening ladies!!
