I have to go through the waiting period when I get home on the 4th of July before I can pick it up and head for the range...my friend that owns the gun shop at home tells me things would go much faster if I had a couple of felonies on my record...he says mere wife beating doesn't help speed up the process at all.

California, right? It's good you're getting it now, rather than after the first of the year. Then you have to attend a class, take a test pay your money and get a "safety certificate". It's good for five years. What i want to know is: If you're stinkin' certificate (aka license) expires, do the JBT's come and confiscate your guns? In Illinois, if your FOID (Firearm Owner's Identification Card) expires, they do exactly that.
