Ok. I know how some love and others hate my little music polls. I think they are light and give us a way to talk in a non-political forum. Today's poll is "what rock albums do you think are PERFECT?" This means that there no clunker tracks and you can listen to the album front to back without forwarding past a song.
My working list is as follows:
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
The Beatles - Revolver or SGT. Peppers
Black Flag - MY WAR
Black Sabbath - first four albums David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars
James Brown - Live at the Apollo
The Clash - London Calling
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River
Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters
Dead Milkmen - Big Lizard in My Backyard
The Doors - The Doors
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde
Funkedelic - Maggot Brain
Marvin Gaye - What's Goin' On?
Grateful Dead - American Beauty
Jimi Hendrix - Are you experienced? OR Electric Ladyland
Huster Du - Zen Arcade
The Kinks - Village Green Preservation Society
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II
Ministry - Land of Rape & Honey
Modern Lovers - (first album)
The Monkees - Headquarters
Morrisey - Viva Hate
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
Nirvana - Nevermind
Parliment - Mothership Connection
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon OR Meddle
The Police - Ghost in the Machine OR Sychronicity
Prince - Purple Rain OR Dirty Mind
Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blod Sugar Sex Magic
Lou Reed - Transformer
R.E.M. - Document
Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed OR Sticky Fingers
Rollins Band - End of the Silence
Sex Pistols - Never mind the bollocks here are the sex pistols
Simon & Garfunkel - Bookends
Sly & The Family Stone - there's a riot going on
The Smiths - The Queen is dead
Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA OR Nebraska
The Stooges - The Stooges
Television - Marquee Moon
They Might Be Giants - Flood
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
U2 - achtung baby
Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground (3rd album)
Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes (1st album)
The Who - The Who Sell Out
Neil Young - after the gold rush
I'm sure I'll think of more . . .
My vote for most perfect album *ever*.
Hurry before they bring out the Cheerleaders!
"did you mean to die like that? was that a mistake?
or did you know your messy death would be a record-breaker?"
you should check out the mr. show parody of JCS called "jeepers creepers semistar"
No way, dude. Out of Time and Automatic are perfect-er. I'd even put Life's, Green, and New Adventures on the same level as Document, dude...
I'll second that! Division Bell too.
Any Motley Crue or Ozzy album,
Van Halen (Van Halen)
Van Halen II
Van Helen (Women and Children First)
KISS (Greatest Hits)
Shania Twain ('Com On Over)
Any Frank Sinatra will do just fine.
(He shamefacedly whispers, his ignorance showing.)
I went to Roth/Hagar concert last night. Outstanding!
Below is what David Lee Roth sang. He did great. Looked great. His voice wasn't what I would say was 100% but buck for buck it was a terrific concert:
Hot for Teacher
Panama
Running with the devil
Mean Street
Eruption (yes it was very, very good, the guy did great)
Beautiful Girls (t and a video of course)
Talkn' 'Bout Love
The Cradle Will Rock
Unchained
Pretty Woman
Yankee Rose***
You Really Got Me Now
Jump
I'll wait
Everybody Wants Some
So This Is Love
Ice Cream Man
***Only solo artist song sang.
I think I missed some songs but it was an excellent concert and a beautiful night. About 17,000 at Alpine Valley in East Troy, WI (about a 40 min. drive from Milwaukee.) Go see him if ya can. I KNOW it's not "Van Halen" but it was darn good nonetheless.
I was a bit young and not too into R-N-R at the time the original VH members were together, so this was my chance and I took it. It was a fun time.
