Dear Mr. Robinson,
I have been a loyal member of the Free Republic since before the 2000 election. I have been a Conservative since the early days of Clinton. When I found this site, I thought "Thank God, people who think like me." I have continued to think this until the more recent days. Now, it seems that there are threads left and right bashing our President.
Why? There are things the President has done which I don't agree with but my loyality still lies with him. I am not sure if these "Bush-Bashers" fail to see the reality that with politics comes comprimise or it is something worse. I feel there is a cancer in the Free Republic. Some are eating their own.
I feel that some of these people are members of the dreaded democratic underground disguised as disgruntled conservatives. They are only here to stir up trouble. What's worse, they are doing just that. I am not sure what I think you should do.
As a conservative, I believe in our moral code but I also realize the reality of politics. I back our President but if he were doing something unsavory (like lying under oath,) I could not support him. This is unlike the left's clintonista dogma. What President Bush is doing is not betraying the conservative cause. He is using politics to confound the left. Those who do not understand this are either leftists themself or unable to separate themselves from their zealousness.
This is your show. You choose who gets to be a member and who does not. Those who break your rules are banished from the kingdom. I am not discouraging free speech, but this is free speech in your forum. These Bush-Bashers are brining us down. When this infighting happened in 1992, Bill Clinton got elected. let's not let that happen again.
Yours,
Big Guy and Rusty 99
I see it as VENTING not bashing, and dispite the discomfort it creates, it is healthy and neccessary politics. Face it, people are pissed, and their grievences not only need to be addressed with counterpoint, they need to be appreciated in their intensity despite the particular incoherency or crudeness.
As far as BANNING 'these people' goes, isn't that like firing your business consultant if he is critical of your operations?
End of story.
Rudy, twice the man that W is ? Sticks to his principles ? Hooooo boy ; that's hysterical and then some. Now, don't get me wrong , I like Rudy G. and approve of much of what he did in N.Y.C. ; however , he folded ( BG TIME ) against the teachers' unions, and has made some really dreadful political calls . I shan't do a detailed reply to this ; it's not the right thread for it.
Do you live in N.Y.C. / do you go there regularly ?
Actually, Bill Gates is a monopolist and an abusive one at that, which is now a matter of public record (9 states yet contesting the penalty).
He is self-serving, which one arguably wants as a shareholder, but not as a citizen.
You're right about them, but it won't change. The good, gentle people will be driven off by the bile and the ones who stay will get tougher and stronger. Some will take up golf.
You have the answers NOW go create it and "they" will come.416
Do you have a problem with my benevolent and constructive idea?434
Absolutely not. In fact I urge you to implement it. You can let us all know when it is done437
Do you have a problem if Jim Robinson decides to implement into his forum? Do you think that implementing it into FreeRepublic is a good idea?454
Only if you want to destroy FreeRepublic.
All I put forth, by way of analogy, was an idea that world facilitate, foster and help elementary learners/writers/teachers a means to improve and make more effective their writing by studying high school level writing and college level writing. And basically the same for high school learners/writers/teachers. Every lurker and poster could read any forum and post to the forum that had similar skill level of writing and teaching.
Please identify what it is that I put forth in post #412 that you assert would wreck the forum. I see it as the opposite -- elevating the quality and traffic of the forum.
Thank you for proving my point!
As opposed to Buchanan sycophants, Or Keyes worshipers, Or Browne knee-padders, OR Phillips disciples?
We need a thread just devoted to that ! Far too few , here, understand this .
Again, thanks for your historical perspective. Might 'compromise' be once again at the root of today's conservatives' problems? Should a conservative's tent be lined with liberal camel noses?
Tell you what, after 8 yrs. of Clinton it would not be very practical to push a very conservative agenda. It would not seem profitable at the voting booth to suddenly exclude those who have been on the receiving end of govt. handouts this early in the game. I understand inertia and how objects at rest tend to want to stay that way.
Whatbothersme is how the bully pulpit is so under utilized in regard to the way citzens view their relationship to their government. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your county" would be very difficult in this age of medicare funded prescription medicine, for example. I have to endure advertisements from two local republicans touting just such madness. Oh well, let's be patient, things will get better. Time heals all things.
One of the things I learned at the "elementary" level of posting on FR is when to quit. Your proposal went over like a faaat in an elevator. Time to air it out.
No pal, it sounds like Stalin's lesson plan for the perfect socialist citizen.
Please identify the specific part(s) of the idea you dislike and why you dislike it rather than making broad sweeping assertions without backing them up via rational discussion.
