A last hour of '24' offers satisfaction amid the twists

Like a weathered ship, a few holes in its hull but still very much afloat, ''24'' proudly pulled into its dock last night. The digital clock ticked midnight, Teri Bauer passed out of this world, and television's bold experiment in real-time suspense drew to a surprisingly satisfying close.

OK fellow 24 addicts....thoughts on last night's finale? I thought it was pretty good.

Some won't like the fact that they killed off a main character, but hey, the willingness to do just such a thing separates this writing staff from the rest of the garbage producers on network television.

The greatest scenes were obviously when Jack ambushed the Drazens and took out 7 heavily armed men in about 2 minutes (LOL), followed by Senator Palmer telling his wife (is there a more hated character on television??) to hit the bricks.

As with nearly all 24 episodes, I found myself exhaling only during commercial breaks!

The whole series depended on fumbling, incompetent people doing incredibly stupid things. I watched most of the episodes because my wife watched them. She was mad at me most of the time because of my comments. Toward the end she also was commenting on the silly situations these people managed to create for themselves.

I'd rather that they'd killed of his daughter instead of his wife.

The daughter was more irritating to me than the wife with her petty, pathetic little teenage do what I want when I want BS.

I agree with you. Not that the wife was any prize but the daughter was the catalyst that set off the whole silly sequence. Her deceit and dishonesty kept the series going. I wished for her demise early on. I guess she didn't get reunited with her criminal boyfriend.

Agreed. The daughter was moronic & whiny. At least the wife had some potential for the second season. The daughter will just be in the way.

The biggest glaring plot hole was that when "Lockdown" procedures went into effect, Nina was able to casually waltz her happy butt out into the parking lot and grab a car. I realize she took out more than one guard, but one was on the phone, and all of the guards were on the radio. You mean to tell me that NO ONE was supposed to call in to ensure that a particular floor was clear and safe!?

That's about as bad as last week, when the vaunted Counter Terrorist Unit found out about the explosion/"death" of Senator Palmer on television!?

Senator Palmer telling his wife (is there a more hated character on television??) to hit the bricks.

And when Hillary Senator Palmer's wife tried to follow him, screaming all the way, with the Secret Service agents stopping her... I loved it! I loved Penny Johnson in "DS9," but she outdid her self in "24"

My wife and I religiously watched 24 the whole season, but missed the first half hour (I'm guessing where all the action was). I was very glad that Palmer told his hag wife to beat it...but I was in shock that Teri was killed. I have a very serious question...did Nina shoot Teri? I didn't think I saw her shoot, as the camera followed her out of the computer room and down the hall, and Teri was alive in the chair. If Nina didn't, that means someone else in the building shot Teri. Help me out here, we're dying because we missed the first half hour!

I couldn't care less about the plot irregularities, I don't believe in human spiders either.

I thought the show was excellent, as were all 23 preceding episodes.

I thought last night's episode was very good. Nina's transformation was frightening.

On the series as a whole. The first episodes were great. The show really worked when you didn't know what was going on or who to trust. The show dropped off significantly when Teri got amnesia (just plain silly). The second half of the series has its ups and downs. Some episodes were good, some not, but I was still hooked. I thought the second to last episode was very poor, but last night redeemed the show, and I will probably watch it again next year.

Teri Bauer passed out of this world

Are we sure she's dead? My impression was that we didn't know for sure, I thought that last seen left us kind of hanging in ambiguity.

My guess is that the producers and writers want us all asking the same question. My take was that Nina thought better of letting Teri live and quickly returned to put a bullet in her chest.

After all, she was plugging anything that moved on her way out of the building, why not kill the wife of her main enemy?

As for the comments on Kim, while I hated her character early on, I think she ends up a hero. Plus, she's gorgeous!

Last night was one of the most satisfying season finales I have ever seen. To kill off Jack's wife at the end was bold and unanticipated. I thought for sure we were going to see "same old same old" good guy beats bad guys and has a happy family reunion at the end. ENNNNHHH!!! Guess again.

I too kind of wish the daughter got "offed" also. But I guess you can't have everything.

Can't wait for reruns so I can go back and pick up on various things.

I've enjoyed the series. I was wondering about the how and the what of the plot for next season would be. I'd like to see if Palmer wins the WH and how is wife tries to derail that. The story of who is behind it all should be interesting too.

Outside of the replays on FX over the weekend, you can forget about reruns. Fox says they won't rerun the series over the summer, but they are planning on taking the entire series to DVD, and including the scenes from the opening two hours that were cut after 9/11.

I really don't care. I'm just glad it's over. I don't think there could be enough people left in this disorganized "security" agency to continue with any more episodes. I didn't keep score but someone may be able to figure out how many of the agents and employees were killed by the bad guys because of the incompetence of those in charge. Was Palmer worth it? Seems that he was manipulated by others until he got rid of his wife in the last few minutes of the series. Maybe that makes for a good President.

24 was excellent. I caught all but two of the episodes. Well done! However, I do want to bitch about JAG. Why did they have to blow up Bud? I just gots to know. He looked like one of the characters in "Band of Brothers."

I never really got into JAG. My sister in law says I'm missing a good show. Maybe I'll pick it up in reruns.

From the episode guide on the website:

11:59: Jack follows the wake of dead CTU guards that Nina left in her path. He enters the transformer room and finds Teri with bullet wounds in her abdomen. He picks up her lifeless body and collapses to his knees. As Jack cradles his dead wife, he breaks down in grief and sorrow.

I guess dead means just that, dead.

If you have the FX channel, they replay the episode on Sunday evenings. Check your schedule for the time.

I was watching but a son called, and it didn't seem that I should say, "Call back!" so I kinda watched and tried to listen to him at the same time. I will rewatch it on Sunday.

Are you sure? Maybe if we trace the English word "dead" back to it's Latin or Germainic roots we can find another meaning somewhere and Jack's wife could return next season.
