Guide wandered far after his last assignment. He desperately hoped he wouldn't run into one of the others. Fighting an agent of the dark wasn't his idea of helping anyone. Such things usually hindered him from doing his assignment. The sun had set hours ago, and it was dark. The stars shone brightly overhead, but it was the darkness that was felt that bothered Guide. It lay across his path, and his assignment was on the other side.
A familiar sharp hiss of intaking breath told him that he had company. He turned to face his guest in as polite a way as possible, considering he had the authority to flatten them at a glance.
"Isabella. Nice to see you again." and he really did mean it, even if she did mean to try and destroy him. She shifted her hips in her leather pants, holes in the knees exposing run-holed nylons, thrust her chin up and langorously walked past him. Once, she'd been his friend....
"What brings you out this way, Guide? You mean to stop our fun? Bother us some more? Or have you come here for me?" the last one sounded like there was some hope in her voice. And she had some small hope, she was still alive, unlike others that Guide knew about.
"If I came here for you, it would be to take you away from here, this place. This life. And to try and get you on the path that would be beter for you. But only if you would come willingly with me." His eyes told her he was serious. He held out his hand. And for a moment, it was like old times, when they laughed together and told jokes. Back when things were good and life was fun. Unlike now. She hesitated, shook, was unsure. Then ran as if the very angels of fire were on her heels trying to tear her apart. Guide dropped his hands and sniffed. He had hoped she would leave this place, her life, the lie. She could have had a truly wonderful life. Now, watching her fade into the night, he felt that hope was quickly extinguishing for her.
He sighed, and reached his hand out again. This time, she stopped. Because he had a hold of her arm. She looked stunned. How had he gotten that close that quickly?
"I would like it if you would just talk with me before running like that. It's polite you know." she actually laughed slightly. He let go of her arm and walked onwards to his assignment. She would follow, maybe. Maybe not. She was one of the sevants of the dark, but she'd been his friend once. He'd heard of stranger things, where such people had actually been helped by those like him. He breathed a silent prayer.
"So, umm.. Can I come with you? See the sights? Do the things we used to do? Go with you, away from here?" he heard some desperation in her voice. And he hoped it wasn't a trick or a trap. He'd also heard of such things as well.
"Very well, just don't tell anyone. And don't try to stop anything I do. Come along. Come, come. It'll be just liek old times. I promise."
An hour later, they were both running for their very lives from other servants of the darkness. Isabella was actually laughing. It was like old times! And it was fun! Guide was wondering about the wisdom of all this as he ducked hurled objects and other things turned weapon...
