Here's a few more dumb questions, why does she have to pay back the state of Montana for her disabled husband's medical care ? If he is truly disabled and qualifies for assistance then why should anyone be forced to pay back any of his benefits. If SHE has to pay and is able to pay for his care then why doesn't she just pay for it in the first place ? Doesn't that sorta discourge marriage ?

No kidding.

The state attemps to recover what it spent from the deadbeat spouse.

If you don't have a job, all well and good, the state will keep you at just above starvation level after you sell off all your possesions.

If you have a job, you must pay. The best paying job she can find would be about $10/hr. After the state's garneshment and taxes she would net about $2-3/hr, from that she needs to cover all the living expenses, gas, heat, food, clothing, etc.

Since she has a job they would no longer qualified for food stamps or any other assistance.

Cute huh?

I didn't have to pay my husband's medical expenses. He had insurance from his work, and they couldn't drop him when he had to retire on disability, but because he was a dialysis patient, the state took over those expenses (I don't know why - it's some deal they have between the insurance companies and the state - after a year and a half on dialysis, the state takes over) and the insurance covered the remaining percentage and all other medical costs... he had so many complications and prescriptions for a few years, and then the failed transplant surgery and weeks in ICU, that I'm sure the total was around half a million or more, but I didn't have to pay any of it. Thank God.
