Hey Hair, I know you're crazy about horses so you've more than likely seen this article already, but heck, just in case here it is.
It's pretty old, written back in 2000 during the filming of LOTR, but it's all about the horses involved and stuff. Talks about Demero and Blanco, the two horses playing Shadowfax and lots of other stuff.

Enjoy!

No maq - I had not seen that article! I had heard some of it - like the horse that slipped of the Bucklebury dock, from the Human Society report, but not all that! - Thanks alot!

I am really looking forward to watching the riding in TTT. I was happy to learn that they were in fact going to be riding Shadowfax "at liberty" or without bridle and saddle. It took a lot of extra work and training to keep to that little detail. It is a detail that a more impatient director would have skipped over.

From TORN:

Even More Spoilers! RotK Style...
Tookish @ 6:15 pm EST

Don't read this if you HATE to know the ending of a good story! From Ringer Miss Mac:

I Just got my Entertainment Weekly, and there is a little quote in the section called "ReelWorld" that I thought may be of interest to you guys.

Heavy spoilers.

"Rings Redux

We bring you news all the way from Middle-earth. Sir Ian Holm, who plays hobbit Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings:The Fellowship of the Ring, may not appear in the sequel, but don't count him out of the trilogy totally. 'I probably shouldn't say this, but I'm back in three... as a very old man.' Says Holm.

'Bilbo just suddenly appears at the end of the movie and says 'I'm ready for another adventure.' He goes off with Frodo into the sunset.'

Sounds slightly hobbo-erotic to us."-Rebecca Ascher-Walsh,Entertainment Weekly, #662, July 12, 2002

Spoiler alert!

or should we say it is an Un-Spoiler alert!?

TORN has updated/retracted/changed their report from Game Day reported here at Post 127.

It unspoils a few things, and adds a few new twists (Like Arwen not being at Helm's Deep) that you guys may find interesting, reassuring or amusing:

TTT Spoilers...-Update-!!
Xoanon @ 3:48 pm EST

Xoanon here, when I posted those reports from Game Day on July 4th, I guessed they would cause ripples, but I wanted to get the word out there. Shortly after I posted them some insiders deep within WETA have written to me to tell me that some of the rumors are somewhat false other are plain imagination. Check out this one email from one of my regular inside contacts in WETA:

I can't get too specific without breaching my confidentiality clause, however I will tell you this much, as you probably already know most of it anyway-

Arwen at Helm's Deep? Utter nonsense as I'm sure you're aware.

PJ wants Gollum slimy? Even if it were true, how on Earth would this guy know? No details about Gollum are known outside Weta, so this is speculation.

PJ said he wants to make The Hobbit? When? And to who? Wouldn't that be news? How does a GW employee know what the details of PJ's deal with NL are?

PJ is working on two more movies including a WW1 movie? Not in this Universe he ain't. Complete nonsense.

There's a bunch more stuff in here that is supposition being portrayed as fact, but I can't mention which ones without inadvertantly giving away the truth of the matter and thus breaking my contract, but suffice to say- much of what is presented here as fact is in actuality nothing more than fan speculation. I suspect the said GW employee had his knuckles wracked if what's reported here is what he really said. I can't believe New Line would have sanctioned this content.

I don't wish to provide any new information and thus infringe trust, but merely state what is already known or can be guessed when the source of the supposedly true statements is analysed. Simply put- when someone makes such claims, you have to wonder how on earth they could know that.

Anyway, I hope this helps clear it up a little. It simply irked me to see someone shooting off at the mouth and misrepresenting what we're all up to down here.

All the best, and keep up the good work.

Well, personally, I'm glad much of it was debunked. Although I was pretty happy to hear PJ wanted to make The Hobbit.

Good morning! Just missed you last night, it seems!

I just can't believe that with only 5 months till TTT comes out, we don't have more "stuff" you know? When did things start getting thick before FOTR came out? I don't know because I was skeptical and didn't pay any attention at the time.

I think they are still editing! - I don't think it is done enough for there to have been those sneak private showings and leaked copies and dark alley DVD selling! - Around October last year it seems the first reviews of sneak previews started coming out.... if memory serves... before that it was rumouring. Tomorrow is too long to wait, if you ask me!

Well, your first post on the New Zealander Builds Hobbit Hole thread was almost 6 months ago...we have been supporting each over half way to where we need to be!

Man, I can't wait.

You can expect the first trickles of semi-reviews of the movie next month.

The score is being recorded next month in London, and as you know if you've ever seen those 'behind the scenes' stuff for movies, the movie is played on a big screen as the music is recorded to get all the timings right etc.

It's a long, long, long process that requires many amendments. So all the sound engineers and all the musicians will be able to see the movie during the recording sessions.

I remember the first semi-review I read for FOTR was by a musician who was there during the recording of the first soundtrack. So maybe the same will happen again. :-)

Andalusian? Why not a mature Percheron, or a Lippizanner (sp?) ? Both are pure white, and BIG. True Destriers used to be enormous plow-type horses with huge feet...

A Lippizaner stallion would have been equally good, but I think an Andalusian was a fine choice. They are of the same classic type. A Percheron is probably too heavy to have the same grace. I don't picture the horses of Rohan to be draft in type, rather fine riding horses... Shadowfax is beautiful.

---aaaAAAAH! Thanks so much!! What a *nice* thing for a Monday morning! DH enjoyed as well. I don't know many riders that'd dare a gallop, with other horses involved, with no bridle. Frankly, not any!

If a movie has pretty horses, I don't much care how bad it is otherwise. And here is a wonderful movie with horses, too. Remember that awful "Man in the Iron Mask" remake with the Titanic boy? What horses!

One of the most beautiful horses in my experience was a twelve year old Percheron/thoroughbred cross, pure white and an open-jumper champion. Big boy. A shame the Arabs are so tiny, they have such fine style. Maybe for Merry or Pippin...

My horse is an Arab, and tall for his breed... I have thought he would make a fine mount for Aragorn... he is Bay, like the one they chose for him. You can see him if you click the photo album link on my profile.

Did you see the story about how Viggo purchased his horse at the end of filming? He had not really been a rider before, but the whole group took riding lessons, along with their sword and archery lessons (there was a lot of homework for this movie!) and he got hooked on riding.

I continue to be so excited that they decided to ride Shadowfax 'at liberty'. It took a lot of extra work and training to stick with that detail, and they easily could have skipped over it without most people noticing. There aren't a lot of horses I would ride at liberty at a full gallop across an open field... let alone into a scary place like he is in the first shot.

I agree... there is not a really bad movie if it has pretty horses in it!

That is a fine, long-legged Arab! I assume you're an eventer, something I never managed to get into.

Viggo bought his horse! Well, I wonder if it's a stunt horse? Heard stories that you have to be careful how you ride them, because they know how to fall on command!

Even American Indians tied a latigo around the lower jaws of their ponies...They're not just galloping a horse at libertry, they're running him-with rider--among other galloping horses. And you know how exciting that might get...the stunt rider needs his own Oscar.
