Is there a better way to count the pages? One that doesn't require opening each and every page to get to the previous one? That could be tedious and error prone when you are trying to get an exact count of over 10,000 posts...

Not that I know of. It would be nice. I liked it when the number of posts was at the top of the self-search page.
